Job Overview:
The Child Protection Officer (GBV) position at UNICEF focuses on enhancing technical support, monitoring program implementation, and strengthening partnerships in gender-based violence (GBV) and violence against children (VAC) prevention and response. The role is critical in supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of GBV-related interventions, ensuring strong linkages to VAC-related child protection programs. The Officer will work closely with government counterparts, civil society organizations, and UN partners to ensure coordinated, survivor-centered, and child-sensitive GBV interventions. This position requires regular travel to field offices and a strong understanding of GBV programming, including prevention and response strategies, as well as experience in program management within both development and humanitarian contexts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support to programme development and planning: Conduct situation analysis for GBV and VAC-related programmes, research development trends, and contribute to establishing sectoral programme goals and objectives. Provide technical and operational support throughout programming processes, ensuring compliance with organizational processes.
  • Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results: Collaborate with colleagues and partners to address implementation issues, monitor and report on GBV programme resources, and prepare sectoral programme/project reports.
  • Technical and operational support to programme implementation: Conduct field visits, provide technical support to government and NGO partners, and coordinate efforts with child protection officers in the field.
  • Networking and partnership building: Build partnerships with government and stakeholders, participate in inter-agency meetings, and prepare resource mobilization materials.
  • Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building: Identify and share lessons learned, apply innovative approaches, and participate in capacity building initiatives for UNICEF staff and partners.

Required Qualifications:
A university degree in social work, gender studies, international development, political science, human rights, psychology, sociology, or a relevant social science field is required. A minimum of two years of professional experience in social development planning and management in gender-based violence-related areas is also required. Experience in programme development and management in child protection and GBV within a UN agency or similar organization is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in fields such as social work, gender studies, international development, political science, human rights, psychology, sociology, or other relevant social sciences. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of child protection and gender-based violence.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in social development planning and management, specifically in areas related to gender-based violence. Relevant experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is advantageous, as is experience in programme development and management within a UN agency or similar organization.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Ukrainian is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

This position is based in Kyiv, Ukraine, and requires the incumbent to work on-site. Regular travel to UNICEF field offices across Ukraine is expected. The role is temporary, with a focus on supporting humanitarian response efforts.
