Job Overview:
The Senior Driver position is crucial for providing reliable and safe transportation services to UNFPA Representatives, staff, and high-ranking officials. The Senior Driver plays a vital role in facilitating the smooth operation of UNFPA's activities by ensuring timely and safe transportation for personnel and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Providing reliable and safe driving services for UNFPA Representatives, staff, high-ranking officials, and visitors.
  • Delivering and collecting mail and documentation as required.
  • Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, managing visa and customs formalities when necessary.
  • Staying informed about traffic, road conditions, and security issues to ensure safe and timely arrivals for meetings.
  • Managing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, including conducting minor repairs, cleaning, and arranging for major repairs and servicing.
  • Keeping daily vehicle logs and assisting in the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and history reports.
  • Obtaining security clearances for all missions of the Representative, UNFPA staff, and officials as required.
  • Ensuring adherence to the organization's rules, regulations, and procedures related to driving and vehicle maintenance.
  • Keeping track of insurance and tax formalities. 1
  • Acting as a translator in the local language for official passengers when necessary. 1
  • Guiding and coaching junior drivers as appropriate. 1
  • Assisting CO staff with general administrative duties as required. 1
  • Performing any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • A valid driver's license.
  • A minimum of three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills.
  • Skills in minor vehicle repairs.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet usage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed Secondary Level Education. A Defensive Driving certification is preferable but not mandatory.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least three years of relevant work experience as a driver, particularly in an international context such as an organization, embassy, or within the UN system. A safe driving record is essential, along with familiarity with driving protocols and local conditions.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English, the official UN language of the duty station, is required. Knowledge of local languages is considered desirable and beneficial for effective communication.
