Job Overview: The Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and NutritionCoordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of MNCH and Nutrition interventions across designated regions or councils in Tanzania. This position is responsible for ensuring quality program delivery and supporting capacity-building efforts aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes. The MNCH and Nutrition Coordinator will collaborate closely with regional and council health teams, implementing partners, and health facilities to ensure effective execution of MNCH and nutrition activities, adherence to national guidelines, and timely reporting. The role is integral to the success of the ACHIEVE project in Tanzania, focusing on high-quality technical delivery and alignment with national and global health standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The MNCH Coordinator will be responsible for providing technical advice, direction, and quality assurance to support the high-quality technical delivery of MNCH and Nutrition activities under the ACHIEVE project in Tanzania. Key responsibilities include ensuring that MNCH and Nutrition activities align with national and global guidelines, standards, and protocols; coordinating with national implementing partners, government, and other stakeholders to plan, implement, and monitor activities in line with the annual work plan; supervising the activities of the NIP Regional MNCH and Nutrition Officers to ensure timely and effective adherence to work plan activities; supporting government Master Trainers in training Facility Champions; monitoring Facility Champion coaching and mentoring activities at health facilities; providing technical assistance and supportive supervision for ACHIEVE/Tanzania, NIP(s), government, and health providers; monitoring the implementation of MNCH and Nutrition activities to ensure timely completion of objectives and targets; and developing relevant deliverables such as quarterly or annual reports and field project evaluations in collaboration with key staff, partners, and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other acceptable local education and experience include a medical degree, Nursing/Midwifery degree, or a bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field. Additional qualifications that are advantageous include a Master’s degree in public health, Global Health, Health Systems, or related fields, as well as experience in MNCH and Nutrition programming, including national-level coordination or leadership. Candidates should have demonstrated experience working with the Ministry of Health and national MNCH and Nutrition structures, relevant work experience in technical areas such as Maternal Health, Child Health, Nutrition, HIV services, and other health-related fields, and experience with USG/PEPFAR-funded projects in Tanzania.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, nursing, midwifery, or a medical degree. A Master’s degree in public health, Global Health, Health Systems, or related fields is considered an added advantage, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
