Job Overview:
The ICT Assistant plays a vital role within the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Unit at UNICEF, particularly in high-demand environments like Syria. This position is crucial for ensuring that digital infrastructure, network systems, and communication platforms operate efficiently. The ICT Assistant provides frontline support, which is essential for maintaining business continuity and safeguarding mission-critical assets. The role involves deploying and maintaining robust connectivity solutions, supporting secure communications, and ensuring that staff have access to necessary tools and systems for effective work. The ICT Assistant will also be responsible for providing technical support during meetings, managing ICT hardware inventory, and performing routine maintenance on IT systems to align with UNICEF's standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conference & Meeting Support: Provide ICT support during meetings, arrange technical setups for on-site and off-site meetings, and organize collaborative meetings and interviews through various platforms.
  • Technical Support: Offer ongoing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to staff at country and zone offices for UNICEF systems and applications, maintain printers, install and manage connectivity and telecom equipment, and maintain network wiring in office and server rooms.
  • Inventory and Stock Management: Keep an up-to-date inventory of ICT hardware, manage stock of ICT equipment, oversee SIM card management, safeguard and dispose of telecom assets properly, and maintain office consumables stock.
  • Routine Maintenance: Conduct periodic preventive maintenance and assessments to ensure IT systems and network infrastructure are sustainable and meet UNICEF ICT standards, maintain network equipment, and coordinate mobile maintenance.
  • IT Service Reporting: Document solutions and report on service level agreements (SLA).
  • Additional Tasks: Perform any other tasks necessary to support ICT operations and overall performance.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a strong understanding of ICT systems and applications, with the ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support effectively. Familiarity with network infrastructure and maintenance is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate self-awareness, ethical awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively with others. Strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain partnerships are also required. Additionally, candidates should be innovative, embrace change, and think strategically to achieve impactful results while managing ambiguity and complexity.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a secondary education is required, with a preference for candidates who have completed higher education in information technology, computer science, or a related field. Relevant certifications in ICT or technical support may also be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of experience in ICT support or a related field. Experience working in a humanitarian or development context, particularly in high-demand environments, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNICEF systems and applications will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Damascus, Syria. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan and are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to local traditions.
