Job Overview: The Information Systems Officer will play a crucial role in building and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architectures for major applications within the DGACM. This position requires the incumbent to engage in significant projects that impact critical operations and user groups. The officer will be responsible for developing and improving release and deployment management processes, providing specialized advice to users, and ensuring compliance with architectural standards and cybersecurity policies. The role also involves managing cloud projects, supervising junior team members, and developing training materials and user documentation. The officer will need to research and evaluate new technologies and facilitate communication between the DevOps team and its clients to maintain good client relations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Information Systems Officer include:
Building and maintaining secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud architectures.
Participating in significant departmental projects that affect critical operations.
Developing and improving release and deployment management processes, including test automation.
Providing specialized advice to users and translating their requirements into new applications.
Developing disaster recovery plans and ensuring proper training for responsible personnel.
Supervising and guiding junior team members and external vendors.
Developing detailed system specifications and user documentation.
Collaborating with the Office of Information and Communication Technology to ensure compliance with standards. 1
Creating training materials and manuals, and training staff on assigned systems. 1
Participating in writing reports on systems-related topics and evaluating new technologies for deployment.
Required Qualifications: The position requires an advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or related fields. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s) with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, AWS certification in either AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, or AWS Security Specialty is mandatory. ITIL certification, agile methodologies certification (Scrum or Kanban), and TOGAF certification are desirable. Certifications in Information Security such as CISSP, GIAC, or CRISC are also desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in relevant fields such as computer science, information systems, mathematics, or statistics. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in these fields along with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of computer information systems is required. Experience working with agile, globally distributed teams is essential. Candidates must have experience in building and maintaining complex enterprise architectures in the cloud, utilizing IaaS and SaaS concepts, and experience with Amazon Web Services is required. Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery frameworks, as well as developing test automation frameworks, is desirable. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure services, including Azure DevOps, is also a plus.
Languages: English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations, but English proficiency is mandatory for this role.
Additional Notes: This position is temporary and available until 31 December 2026, subject to the availability of funds, with the possibility of extension contingent upon continued funding.
