Job Overview: The Thailand Project Director is responsible for leading and directing the implementation of the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) Activity in Thailand and Southeast Asia. This role is crucial for enhancing global health priorities in the region, focusing on strengthening laboratory and surveillance systems to effectively respond to emerging infectious diseases and public health threats. The Project Director will manage all aspects of the Activity, including personnel, budget, and technical responsibilities. They will serve as the primary liaison with local government, regional entities, and global health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security partners, ensuring that the Activity meets its goals and objectives. The Project Director will also oversee the development and implementation of annual work plans, monitoring and evaluation activities, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Thailand Project Director include planning, directing, and coordinating the implementation of the STRIDES Activity to ensure that goals are met within set timeframes and budgets. They will establish work plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with policies. The Project Director will directly manage technical, financial, and operational staff, fostering a safe and equitable work environment. They will maintain relationships with national, regional, and local government counterparts and multisectoral partners to achieve global health security objectives. The Project Director will lead the in-country team, liaising with global leadership to develop and adjust technical work plans, budgets, and reports. They will ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables, provide guidance and training to staff, and support performance management and professional development.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management theories, concepts, and practices, with a strong preference for familiarity with international Global Health Security frameworks. Excellent project management skills are essential, including the ability to develop annual work plans and oversee monitoring and evaluation plans. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required, along with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively. Experience in developing partnerships and managing relationships with government and implementing partners in Thailand and Southeast Asia is highly preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills in managing staff within a matrixed organization are also necessary.
Educational Background: A Master's or PhD (or equivalent) in public health, social sciences, management, public administration, or other health-related fields is required. A project management certification is preferred, indicating a formal understanding of project management principles and practices.
Experience: Typically, candidates should have at least 10 years of relevant experience in project management, including a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role. Experience working with the Department of State or other donor organizations is desirable, as is experience in a Government Human, Animal, or Environmental Health Ministry/Agency. Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing human or animal health projects related to infectious diseases, as well as experience in Global Health Security projects or activities. Experience in mentoring staff and building local capacity is also important.
Languages: Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking) is required. Fluency in the host country language is also necessary to effectively communicate with local stakeholders and partners.
