Job Overview: The International UN Volunteer (UNV) position is designed to support youth-led economic growth and entrepreneurship initiatives in Kyrgyzstan. The UNV will work within the Public Effectiveness and Responsive Institutions cluster, specifically in the Peace, Accountability, and Justice Programme Area. The role involves enhancing youth civic engagement and participation in entrepreneurship and economic development. The UNV will collaborate with municipalities, youth centers, local businesses, civil society organizations, and private sector partners to promote youth entrepreneurship, improve access to finance, and provide business acceleration training. The position emphasizes the importance of Youth Centres as hubs for personal growth and economic development, aiming to create a supportive ecosystem for youth entrepreneurship and investment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of the International UN Volunteer include:
Strengthening the leadership capacities of youth-led civil society organizations (CSOs), youth centers, and community leaders to enhance civic engagement and participation in local economic development.
Facilitating collaboration among local businesses, investors, and youth-led CSOs to promote employment and self-employment opportunities.
Enhancing youth civic participation in local decision-making processes related to economic development and entrepreneurship.
Designing and implementing inclusive local social and economic entrepreneurship initiatives that foster community unity and promote civic responsibility.
Promoting digital and e-commerce opportunities for youth businesses.
Contributing to the implementation of youth entrepreneurship initiatives in targeted areas.
Supporting community dialogues on youth inclusion, access to finance, and public service delivery improvements that positively impact youth entrepreneurship and economic development.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong leadership and facilitation skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage youth and community members in economic development initiatives. Experience in project management, particularly in youth entrepreneurship or economic development, is essential. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of the local context in Kyrgyzstan and the challenges faced by youth in accessing economic opportunities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to build partnerships and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including local businesses, government entities, and civil society organizations.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in social sciences, economics, business administration, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of economic development, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in youth engagement, economic development, or project management. Experience working with youth organizations, civil society, or in a development context is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local economic landscape and previous work in Kyrgyzstan or similar environments will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Russian and Kyrgyz is highly desirable. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the local context and community engagement efforts.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role, and the duration of the contract is typically aligned with project timelines. The UNV will be expected to engage in various learning and advocacy activities, including participation in UNV events and community-based volunteer practices. The role is designed to promote volunteerism as a means to drive youth entrepreneurship and inclusive governance.
