Job Overview:
The Director of the Epidemic and Pandemic Management programme will play a crucial role in enhancing global health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. This position involves leading efforts to strengthen countries' capacities to prevent, prepare for, detect, and respond to epidemics and pandemics. The Director will oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies that integrate risk reduction, emergency response, and recovery efforts. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including Member States, UN agencies, and other partners, to ensure effective responses to infectious disease threats. The Director will also be responsible for providing high-level technical advice, developing evidence-based policies, and ensuring that the department's objectives are met through effective management of resources and personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director will ensure effective management and accountability of the department, leading a diverse workforce to optimize financial resources and deliverables. Responsibilities include articulating a clear departmental vision aligned with organizational strategy, providing technical expertise to Member States, developing evidence-based policies, overseeing monitoring and evaluation, and representing the department in global forums. Specific duties include leading the development of technical guidelines for epidemic preparedness, providing strategic advice on infectious hazards management, overseeing training initiatives for healthcare professionals, and engaging partners to advance health research and development.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong skills in policy development and management, with a proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage financial resources effectively. The role requires excellent communication skills to engage with Member States and partners diplomatically. A globally respected level of technical expertise in epidemic and pandemic management is essential, along with proven leadership skills in public health programme planning and coordination.

Educational Background:
An advanced level university degree in medicine, public health, or a related field is essential. Training in health emergency management is also required. A PhD in a relevant field and certification in global health security are desirable qualifications that would enhance a candidate's profile.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in epidemic and pandemic management, including senior-level advisory roles and experience in policy development. Demonstrated international experience and a proven track record in coordinating large-scale public health projects are essential. Desirable experience includes leading international health emergency responses and collaborating with health organizations at various levels.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is mandatory, while intermediate knowledge of French is desirable. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
