Job Overview: The position of International Individual Consultant for Technical Support for Microinsurance Market Development in Uganda involves providing specialized expertise to enhance the microinsurance sector in the country. The assignment is expected to span 50 working days over a period of 8 months, with the consultant working remotely but required to travel to Uganda as necessary to engage with stakeholders and conduct field assessments.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Conducting a comprehensive analysis of the microinsurance landscape in Uganda, including existing products, market players, and regulatory frameworks.
Identifying barriers to market entry and growth for microinsurance providers and proposing actionable recommendations to overcome these challenges.
Engaging with stakeholders to gather insights and foster collaboration among insurers, regulators, and community organizations.
Developing training materials and conducting workshops to enhance the capacity of local stakeholders in microinsurance product design and distribution.
Providing ongoing technical support and guidance to stakeholders throughout the assignment period.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to UNDP and other relevant parties.
Monitoring and evaluating the impact of implemented strategies and providing feedback for continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in microinsurance, insurance market development, or a related field. A proven track record of working with international organizations, particularly in developing countries, is essential. The consultant should have excellent analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with the Ugandan insurance market and regulatory environment will be considered an advantage. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to promoting financial inclusion and social protection for vulnerable populations.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in insurance, risk management, or microfinance will be highly regarded. Candidates should have a solid understanding of microinsurance principles and practices, as well as relevant academic or professional qualifications that support their expertise in this area.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in microinsurance, insurance market development, or financial inclusion initiatives. Experience working with international development organizations, particularly in the context of capacity building and technical assistance, is highly desirable. Proven experience in conducting market assessments, developing training programs, and engaging with stakeholders in the insurance sector is essential. Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in the Ugandan context will be a significant asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in local languages spoken in Uganda, such as Luganda or Swahili, would be considered an advantage, as it may facilitate better engagement with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as an Individual Contractor role, and the contract duration is for 50 working days spread over 8 months. The consultant will work remotely but will be required to travel to Uganda for stakeholder engagement and field assessments. The position is open to international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
