Job Overview:
The Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding Coordinator position is a short-term role based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a significant focus on capacity development, strategic planning, and business development. The role is crucial for leading DRC Ethiopia’s Humanitarian Mine Action and Peacebuilding programming portfolio, which is a core sector for the organization. The coordinator will be responsible for identifying new opportunities, developing partnerships, and enhancing technical capacities across DRC field teams and partner organizations. This position is vital as DRC has recently received accreditation for humanitarian mine action in Ethiopia and is in the process of establishing programs in this sector. The coordinator will also play a key role in expanding peacebuilding and social cohesion initiatives, ensuring that these efforts align with DRC’s broader strategic priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding Coordinator will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Fundraising: Collaborate with the Head of Programme and director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director to identify fundraising opportunities in the HDP sector, support donor engagement, and lead the development of HDP-related concept notes and project proposals.
  • Technical and Team Supervision: Mentor the HDP Specialist, provide technical direction and guidance, support managers in assessing technical skills and performance, and participate in the recruitment of senior HDP technical staff.
  • Programme Development and Management: Lead DRC Ethiopia’s Humanitarian Mine Action and Peacebuilding portfolios, ensuring effective planning, implementation, financial management, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Strategic Direction and Quality: Develop the sector strategy for Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding, ensuring integration with DRC’s broader strategic priorities.
  • External Representation and Advocacy: Act as a liaison with local authorities and engage in policy forums regarding good practices in HMA and PB.
  • Partnerships: Participate in partner mapping, due-diligence assessments, and collaborate with partners on project development.
  • Other: Actively participate in the management of DRC Ethiopia as part of the Extended Senior Management Team and undertake any other duties as agreed with the Head of Programme.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of working experience in Peacebuilding, Mine Action, conflict management, or similar sectors. They should have an extensive understanding of conflict management issues, community-based approaches, and policy development. A minimum of 2 years of project management experience at the implementation level is required, along with proven experience in fundraising and donor engagement. Candidates should demonstrate experience in ensuring conflict-sensitive programming, capacity development, and training of staff. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to coordinate across departments, and experience in politically-sensitive contexts are essential. Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory, and female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in conflict management, conflict prevention, development studies, social sciences, or a related field from a recognized institution is required. Alternatively, relevant working experience of at least 5 years in Mine Action, Peacebuilding, or conflict management may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience, particularly in Peacebuilding, Mine Action, or conflict management. Candidates should have a proven track record in project management and fundraising, as well as experience in capacity development and training. Familiarity with conflict-sensitive programming and the ability to navigate complex political environments are also crucial.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is mandatory for this position. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, as effective communication is a core competency expected from the role holder.

Additional Notes:
The contract length for this position is 12 months, and it is classified as a National Contract Band: G1 – Non-Management. The duty station is Addis Ababa, and the start date is as soon as possible. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees.
