Job Overview:
The Deputy Project Director for the Moyens de Subsistance Transformés (MOST) project plays a crucial role in supporting the Senior Technical Manager, who serves as the Project Director. This position is responsible for managing and directing the implementation of the MOST project, which focuses on artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) livelihoods and stabilization across Mali, Guinea, and Senegal. The project is part of a larger initiative funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The Deputy Project Director will lead the implementation of project activities in Mali, supervise part-time staff, and manage local implementing partners. This role requires technical leadership in areas such as ASGM governance, livelihood strengthening, and responsible mining practices. The Deputy Project Director will also engage in field trips to monitor project activities, collect data, and provide training and coaching to stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Deputy Project Director will lead the implementation of MOST project activities in Mali and provide technical support for project activities in Guinea and Senegal. Key responsibilities include monitoring the institutional, political, commercial, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security context of Mali’s gold mining sector, preparing regular reports for the Project Director, managing project budgets and expenses, and developing relationships with project stakeholders. The role also involves leading the collection and reporting of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) data, ensuring compliance with national laws and regulations, and participating in internal and external communications. The Deputy Project Director will support the Project Director in engaging international partners and represent Pact in various meetings and forums.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and have at least 7 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in a management role. A minimum of 5 years of work experience in Mali’s ASGM sector is required, along with established relationships with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Mines and ASGM communities. Fluency in French, both oral and written, is mandatory, as well as proficiency in at least one local language spoken in Mali. Candidates should also be Malian citizens and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mentality.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in relevant fields such as international development, project management, or environmental science may have an advantage.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a management capacity. Candidates should have substantial experience working with stakeholders in Mali’s ASGM sector, including government entities, civil society organizations, and local communities. Prior experience in managing projects and leading teams is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, both in oral and written forms. Additionally, candidates should be fluent in at least one language commonly spoken in Mali, which will facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.

The position is full-time and may involve travel to various project sites within Mali, Guinea, and Senegal.
