Job Overview:
The position of Expert National en Développement de Projet involves providing specialized expertise in project development for the UNDP in Burundi. The expert will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating projects that align with the UNDP's strategic goals and the national development agenda. This role requires a deep understanding of the local context, including socio-economic challenges and opportunities, to ensure that projects are relevant and impactful. The expert will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and community groups, to foster collaboration and ensure that project objectives are met. The position is expected to span 50 working days, distributed from January to July 2026, and will require the expert to engage in both fieldwork and office-based tasks, ensuring that all project activities are executed effectively and efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Expert National en Développement de Projet include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting thorough assessments of project needs and opportunities in the context of Burundi's development landscape.
  • Developing project proposals that are aligned with UNDP's strategic priorities and the national development plan.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to gather input and ensure buy-in for project initiatives.
  • Designing project implementation plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Monitoring and evaluating project progress, ensuring that objectives are met and reporting on outcomes.
  • Providing technical assistance and capacity building to local partners and stakeholders involved in project implementation.
  • Preparing detailed reports and documentation for project activities, including lessons learned and recommendations for future initiatives.
  • Engaging in knowledge sharing and dissemination of best practices related to project development and implementation.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include:
  • A strong background in project development and management, preferably within the context of international development.
  • Proven experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations in project-related roles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies, including logical framework approaches and results-based management.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Development Studies, Project Management, Public Administration, or a related discipline. A PhD or equivalent advanced degree would be an asset, particularly for candidates with a focus on sustainable development or governance.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in project development and management, particularly in the context of international development. Experience working in Burundi or similar contexts is highly desirable, as is familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures and guidelines.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Burundi. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners. Knowledge of local languages would be an added advantage, enhancing engagement with community-level stakeholders.
