Job Overview: The position of Spécialiste National (e) - genre et sauvegardes environnementales et sociales is focused on addressing gender issues and environmental and social safeguards. The specialist will be responsible for engaging stakeholders and ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into environmental and social policies and practices. The role requires a deep understanding of gender dynamics and the ability to mobilize stakeholders effectively. The specialist will work closely with various partners to promote gender equality and ensure that environmental and social safeguards are upheld in development projects. This position is critical for ensuring that the UNDP's initiatives are inclusive and sustainable, aligning with the organization's broader goals of fostering equitable development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments of gender issues and environmental and social safeguards in development projects.
Develop strategies and action plans to integrate gender considerations into project design and implementation.
Facilitate stakeholder engagement processes to ensure that diverse voices are heard and considered in decision-making.
Provide technical support and guidance to project teams on gender and safeguards issues.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of gender and safeguard measures in projects.
Prepare reports and documentation on gender and safeguard activities and outcomes.
Collaborate with other UN agencies, government bodies, and civil society organizations to promote gender equality and safeguard practices.
Organize training and capacity-building workshops for stakeholders on gender and environmental safeguards.
Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in gender and environmental safeguards.
Required Qualifications:
Proven expertise in gender issues and environmental and social safeguards.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with UNDP policies and procedures related to gender and safeguards is an asset.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in Gender Studies, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in gender and environmental safeguards will be considered an advantage.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in gender and environmental and social safeguards, preferably in an international development context. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is highly desirable. Proven track record of engaging stakeholders and implementing gender-sensitive approaches in projects is essential.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Burundi. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is for a fixed term of 20 working days. The role is part-time and may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate stakeholder engagements. The position is open to both national and international applicants, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
