Job Overview:
The Digital Outreach and Communication Consultant will play a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility of the Digital FAO and Agro-Informatics (CSI) initiatives. This position involves developing and implementing digital outreach and communication campaigns that effectively communicate the impact of CSI's work on FAO's development objectives. The consultant will be responsible for producing a variety of materials, including reports, articles, technical guides, social media posts, and videos, aimed at raising awareness about FAO's digital tools and solutions. The role requires collaboration with various technical divisions within FAO to ensure that outreach materials are informative, engaging, and aligned with the organization's branding and communication standards. Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Collaborating with CSI colleagues and other technical divisions to prepare and disseminate written and visual outreach materials, such as reports, brochures, articles, guides, and videos, that highlight FAO's digital tools and solutions.
  • Identifying and documenting good use cases and success stories related to the Digital for Impact (D4I) initiatives, and liaising with focal points to enhance visibility on the impact of CSI's work.
  • Contributing to the development of speeches and strategic messages that emphasize the significance of digital tools and solutions in advancing FAO's mission and the broader digital transformation of agrifood systems.
  • Assisting in the layout and design of technical reports and outreach products, coordinating with editors and graphic designers to ensure materials adhere to CSI's visual identity.
  • Navigating political sensitivities while ensuring all communication materials comply with FAO's corporate branding and guidelines.
  • Mainstreaming the Digital Public Goods (DPG)-First approach in FAO projects through effective knowledge sharing.
  • Compiling knowledge, information, and trends regarding DPG tools and practices, presenting evidence of their positive impact.
  • Advocating for the benefits of digital transformation across agrifood systems through high-level speeches and presentations.
  • Performing other relevant tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
For Consultants: An advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in Communication, Social Science, Journalism, Political Science, Information Technology, Agronomy, or any other relevant discipline is required. Candidates with a bachelor's degree must have two additional years of relevant professional experience. A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in outreach and advocacy is essential. Proficiency in English, French, or Spanish is required, with limited knowledge of one of the other FAO official languages considered an asset. For PSA: A university degree or equivalent technical degree in Communication, Social Science, Journalism, Political Science, Information Technology, Agronomy, or any other relevant discipline is required. A minimum of 1 year of relevant working experience in outreach and advocacy is necessary. Proficiency in English, French, or Spanish is required, with limited knowledge of one of the other FAO official languages considered an asset.

Educational Background:

Experience:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in outreach and advocacy for consultant roles. For PSA positions, at least 1 year of relevant working experience is required. Experience in drafting communication materials, supporting outreach activities for UN organizations, and familiarity with various writing styles is highly valued.

Languages:
Proficiency in English, French, or Spanish is mandatory for this position. Additionally, having limited knowledge of one of the other FAO official languages is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multilingual environment.
