The organization aims to provide a common coordinating center for volunteer-related matters and to disseminate information on the contributions of volunteers to the national economy. It operates in Kenya and is involved in various initiatives to mobilize resources and partnerships among member and non-member organizations.
Job Overview: The Online Volunteer Monitoring and Evaluation Officers will play a crucial role in the IAVE–IBM Reskilling Revolution Africa (RRA) – SkillsBuild Project, which is a multi-country initiative aimed at equipping young people with essential digital and professional skills. This project targets over 35,000 learners across Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Africa, with a specific focus on gender inclusion. In Kenya, the project aims to reach 15,000 youth across five counties. The Monitoring and Evaluation Officers will be responsible for supporting the project team in tracking implementation progress and assessing learning outcomes, which is vital for understanding the effectiveness of the intervention. They will work closely with facilitators and project coordinators to ensure that data collection and analysis are conducted accurately, thereby supporting evidence-based decision-making and helping the project achieve its learning and employability outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Monitoring and Evaluation volunteers include supporting the implementation of the project’s M&E framework and indicators, tracking learner enrollment, participation, course completion, and digital badge attainment. They will collect and organize both quantitative and qualitative data from facilitators and learners, support the design and administration of surveys and feedback tools, and clean, analyze, and visualize data using basic M&E tools such as Excel and Google Sheets. Additionally, they will produce weekly or monthly progress summaries and dashboards, support gender and inclusion tracking, document success stories and lessons learned, and contribute to continuous project improvement while ensuring data accuracy, confidentiality, and ethical use of information.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. They should be proficient in data collection and analysis, have experience with M&E frameworks, and be familiar with basic data visualization tools. Strong communication skills are essential for documenting findings and sharing insights with stakeholders. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to gender inclusion and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Educational Background: A background in social sciences, statistics, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant coursework or training in monitoring and evaluation, data analysis, or research methodologies. Familiarity with digital tools and platforms used for data collection and analysis is also beneficial.
Experience: While prior experience in monitoring and evaluation is advantageous, it is not strictly required. Candidates with relevant volunteer experience or internships in data management, research, or project support will be considered favorably. The organization values a willingness to learn and adapt as part of the team.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the target counties is a plus, as it may facilitate better engagement with learners and facilitators.
Additional Notes: This position is a volunteer role, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. However, it provides valuable experience in the field of monitoring and evaluation, particularly within the context of a significant multi-country project. The role is expected to be part-time, allowing flexibility for volunteers to manage their time effectively while contributing to the project. Volunteers will have the opportunity to develop their skills and gain insights into the workings of international development initiatives.
