Job Posting Organization:
The Financing for sustainable-development-office" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Sustainable Development Office (FSDO) is part of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) of the United Nations. The mission of FSDO is to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to facilitate the financing of sustainable development initiatives. Established to address global economic and social challenges, FSDO works with various stakeholders, including governments, civil society, and the private sector, to mobilize resources and promote sustainable development practices. The office operates globally, engaging with multiple countries to foster partnerships and share best practices in sustainable financing.

Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at the Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO) is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical experience in the field of sustainable development financing. Interns will work closely with experienced staff members, gaining insights into the operations of the United Nations and the role of financing in achieving sustainable development goals. The internship is structured to be full-time, requiring interns to commit to 35 hours per week. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in various projects and initiatives, contributing to the office's mission while developing their professional skills. The position is primarily in-person at the New York duty station, but there is flexibility for remote or hybrid arrangements based on the intern's situation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for supporting the FSDO in various tasks, including conducting research on sustainable financing practices, assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations, and participating in meetings and discussions related to sustainable development initiatives. They will also help in organizing events and workshops, providing logistical support, and engaging with stakeholders to gather information and insights. Interns may be tasked with analyzing data and contributing to the development of strategies aimed at enhancing financing for sustainable development. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to collaborate with other UN offices and departments, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the UN's approach to sustainable development financing.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, candidates should have a field of study that closely relates to the internship they are applying for. This ensures that interns can effectively contribute to the office's work and gain relevant experience in their area of interest.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. This educational background is essential to ensure that interns possess the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to engage with the complex issues surrounding sustainable development financing.

Experience:
The internship does not require prior professional work experience, making it an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain their first experience in a professional setting. However, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in sustainable development and financing, as well as a willingness to learn and contribute to the office's objectives.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for the internship programme. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's application. This multilingual capability is beneficial for engaging with diverse stakeholders and understanding the global context of sustainable development.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship. The internship is expected to last for up to six months, with the possibility of extension based on departmental needs. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and there are no fees associated with the application or recruitment process.
