Established to support the development of democratic institutions and the rule of law, the mission employs over fifteen international mission members and hosts international interns and junior professional officers. The organization aims to foster a collaborative environment where personnel can gain a basic understanding of the Serbian language to enhance their communication skills in both personal and professional settings. Job Overview:
The Serbian Language Teacher will be responsible for delivering Serbian language classes to international personnel working with the OSCE Mission to Serbia. This role is crucial as it aims to equip international staff with the necessary language skills to communicate effectively in their daily tasks and professional interactions. The teacher will develop tailored curricula and learning materials for different proficiency levels, including elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, and upper-intermediate groups. Additionally, the teacher will provide mentoring lessons to senior management staff, focusing on enhancing their ability to deliver speeches and work with official documents in Serbian. The position offers flexibility, allowing the teacher to conduct lessons either online or in person at the Mission's premises, depending on the needs of the learners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Developing comprehensive curricula, learning plans, and teaching materials tailored to the needs of international mission members.
  • Preparing, organizing, and delivering Serbian language courses to up to four groups of learners, ensuring that lessons are engaging and effective.
  • Providing mentoring lessons to senior management staff, focusing on practical language use in public speaking and official documentation.
  • Conducting both group and individual language lessons, adapting teaching methods to suit different learning styles and levels.
  • Organizing and delivering lessons totaling up to 180 working days within one calendar year, with the flexibility to work from home or at the Mission's premises.
  • Assessing the learning needs of students and evaluating their progress throughout the course.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • Citizenship of or permanent residence in the Republic of Serbia.
  • A university degree in Serbian language or a closely related field, along with demonstrated experience in teaching Serbian to adult non-native speakers.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in teaching Serbian to adult learners, with at least two years specifically focused on non-native speakers.
  • Proven experience in providing formal language instruction that emphasizes grammar, linguistic structure, and conversational skills.
  • Familiarity with conducting virtual lessons using online platforms and adapting teaching methods to suit various learning needs.
  • Professional fluency in English, both written and oral, is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • A demonstrated commitment to gender awareness and sensitivity in educational practices.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor's Degree, which is defined as a first-level university degree or its equivalent. This educational background should ideally be in the Serbian language or a closely related subject, ensuring that the candidate has a solid foundation in both the language and its pedagogical approaches.

Experience:
Candidates should have a substantial level of experience, specifically a minimum of five years in teaching Serbian to adult learners. This experience should include at least two years of teaching non-native speakers, demonstrating the ability to cater to the unique challenges faced by this demographic. Experience in developing curricula, conducting assessments, and adapting teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs is also essential.

Languages:
Professional fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the OSCE. While Serbian is the language being taught, candidates should also possess a good command of English to facilitate effective instruction and communication with international staff. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not explicitly required.

  • The remuneration package includes a payment of RSD 3,600 per group lesson and RSD 2,400 per individual mentoring lesson, with fees paid monthly based on the actual number of lessons delivered. There is potential for an extension of the contract into the 2027 calendar year, contingent upon satisfactory performance and budget availability.
