Job Overview:
The Nutrition Specialist position involves direct supervision by the respective office heads and technical guidance from the Chief of Nutrition. The role is crucial in supporting the development and preparation of nutrition programs, managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on progress. The specialist provides technical advice and management support throughout the programming processes to facilitate administration and achieve concrete and sustainable results in maternal and child nutrition programs/projects. This is done in accordance with plans, resource allocation, results-based management approaches, strategic plans, performance standards, and UNICEF's accountability framework. The position requires a proactive approach to addressing the nutritional needs of vulnerable populations, particularly in the context of emergency situations and ongoing humanitarian crises.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the planning and coordination of the development of the Nutrition program.
  • Manage the program, monitor, and achieve results.
  • Provide technical and operational support for program implementation.
  • Network and establish partnerships.
  • Foster innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring that the nutrition program aligns with UNICEF's strategic objectives and contributes to the overall mission of improving child health and nutrition outcomes in the DRC. This includes engaging with local stakeholders, government agencies, and community organizations to enhance program effectiveness and sustainability.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a higher university degree in one of the following fields: nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, nutritional epidemiology, or another related scientific field. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of nutrition programming and its impact on child health and development.

Educational Background:
A higher university degree in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, or a related scientific field is required. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of nutrition in various contexts, particularly in developing countries.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of professional experience in a developing country in one or more of the following areas: nutrition, nutrition in emergencies, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security/food systems, public health, nutrition planning and management, nutrition sector coordination, or maternal, infant, and young child health and nutrition. This experience should demonstrate a solid understanding of the challenges and opportunities in implementing effective nutrition programs in resource-limited settings.

Languages:
Fluency in French (oral and written) is mandatory, while a good command of English is considered an asset. Proficiency in both languages is crucial for effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders in the field of nutrition.
