Job Overview: The GEA-Women Forum for Development Consultant position is designed to support the UNDP's initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The consultant will be responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of strategies that enhance women's participation in decision-making processes and promote their rights. This role requires a deep understanding of gender issues and the socio-economic context of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners, to ensure that women's voices are heard and considered in policy-making. The assignment is expected to last from January 2026 to December 2026, with a maximum of 80 working days allocated for the consultant's services. The consultant will be expected to deliver high-quality outputs that contribute to the overall objectives of the UNDP's gender equality initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have a range of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting assessments of the current status of women's participation in governance and decision-making; developing and implementing training programs aimed at enhancing the skills and capacities of women leaders; facilitating workshops and forums that promote dialogue on gender issues; collaborating with local and international stakeholders to advocate for policies that support gender equality; preparing reports and documentation that outline progress and challenges in the implementation of gender-related initiatives; providing technical assistance to government and civil society organizations in the development of gender-sensitive policies; and ensuring that all activities are aligned with UNDP's strategic objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in gender studies, social sciences, or a related field. A proven track record of working on gender equality initiatives, particularly in the context of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is essential. The consultant should have excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Experience in project management and familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures will be considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in their professional work.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in gender studies, social sciences, international development, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in relevant areas will be given preference. Continuous professional development in gender-related topics and methodologies is highly desirable.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in gender equality and women's empowerment initiatives, with a focus on policy advocacy and capacity building. Experience working with international organizations, particularly within the UN system, is highly advantageous. The consultant should also have a strong understanding of the socio-political landscape of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the challenges faced by women in the region.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultant's work. Knowledge of additional languages will be considered an asset.
