Job Overview:
The Livestock Technician position is crucial for supporting the health, well-being, and productivity of livestock populations in Dolakha District, Baiteshor Rural Municipality. The role involves a range of responsibilities related to the care, management, and health of livestock, utilizing principles of animal behavior to effectively handle and manage livestock. The technician will work under the supervision of the FAO Representative in Nepal and the Project Team Leader, with technical guidance from the Cluster Livestock Value Chain Specialist. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to implement dairy, goat, and poultry promotion interventions, ensuring the sustainability of agricultural operations. The technician will also be responsible for monitoring project activities, providing technical services to livestock producer groups, and facilitating the development of proposals for accessing project support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Livestock Technician will perform a variety of tasks, including assisting the Project Coordination Unit (PCU) in forming and identifying new livestock producer groups, conducting orientation meetings, facilitating group registration, and providing support for group strengthening. The technician will mobilize producer groups for demonstrations, record-keeping, and training related to livestock productivity improvement. Responsibilities also include preparing and submitting work plans and progress reports, identifying demonstration sites, coordinating the distribution of quality inputs, and monitoring project activities. The technician will provide technical services on preventive and curative animal health care, assist in the distribution of breeding bucks, and support the establishment of livestock processing infrastructure. Additionally, the technician will collect and report field-level data, implement awareness-raising activities, and assist in compliance monitoring and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or Technical Diploma in Animal Science relevant to Junior Technical Assistant (JTA) qualifications. A minimum of two years of working experience in animal health and production management is required. Candidates should have a working knowledge of English and Nepali and must be nationals of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. The position requires proficiency in animal husbandry, knowledge of basic veterinary procedures, and the ability to recognize signs of illness in animals. Strong problem-solving skills, good computer operation knowledge, and effective communication skills in both English and Nepali are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma or Technical Diploma in Animal Science, which is equivalent to SLC/TSLC qualifications. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the principles of animal care and management necessary for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of relevant working experience in animal health and production management. This experience should encompass practical knowledge of livestock care, management, and health, as well as familiarity with the operational activities of related projects or programs.

Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are English and Nepali. Candidates must have a working knowledge of both languages to effectively communicate and perform their duties. Proficiency in these languages is essential for reporting, documentation, and collaboration with stakeholders.
