Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position at UNICEF involves providing emotional support and crisis prevention assistance through a call center service in Bolivia. Volunteers will work in shifts, dedicating 8-10 hours per week, during hours assigned by their direct supervisor. The role is designed to help the Bolivian community, particularly vulnerable populations such as women facing violence, migrants, and the LGBTQI+ community. Volunteers will undergo comprehensive training on care protocols, case management, and call center operations, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle sensitive situations. Participation in synchronous training sessions and periodic activities organized by UNICEF Bolivia is encouraged to enhance the volunteer experience and effectiveness in providing support. Volunteers will also have access to self-guided courses that offer certification upon completion, further enriching their skills and knowledge in crisis intervention and emotional support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide emotional support and crisis prevention assistance through a call center service, working in shifts as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Participate in comprehensive training on care protocols, case management, and call center operations.
  • Engage actively in synchronous training sessions and periodic activities organized by UNICEF Bolivia.
  • Complete mandatory self-guided courses available on the virtual learning platform.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines as outlined by UNICEF.
  • Report any emotional distress, technical limitations, or ethical/security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security incidents to the designated supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure a distraction-free workspace to provide effective support.
  • Contribute to the overall mission of UNICEF by prioritizing the needs of vulnerable populations.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with callers.
  • Ability to provide empathetic and non-judgmental support to individuals in crisis.
  • Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques and emotional support strategies.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in using call center technology.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards in handling sensitive information.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.

Educational Background:
A background in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory. Relevant training or certifications in crisis intervention or emotional support will be considered an asset.

Experience:
Previous experience in a call center, counseling, or support role is advantageous but not strictly required. Volunteers should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the demands of the role.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the service is provided to the Bolivian community. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly indigenous languages or English, is considered a plus but not essential.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position with a commitment of 8-10 hours per week. Volunteers will be required to sign a confidentiality and ethical commitment declaration before starting their assignment. Continuous monitoring of the assignment will be conducted by UNICEF Bolivia to ensure compliance with ethical standards and to provide support as needed. Volunteers must have access to a computer with specific technical requirements, a stable internet connection, and a quiet workspace to effectively perform their duties.
