Job Overview: The Partnership Intern position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the UN's mission in China, particularly in the context of the new Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2026-2030). This role involves supporting the development of public-private partnerships that are crucial for the implementation of the Cooperation Framework. The intern will work under the supervision of the UN Partnership and Financing Officer, assisting in various tasks that facilitate the organization of major events, preparation of materials, and coordination of high-level meetings. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international development and partnership building within the UN system.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Partnership Intern will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Supporting the organization of major events for the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO), which includes logistical support and drafting briefing documents and speeches.
Compiling and preparing briefing and presentation materials, as well as background information and documentation on key policies and developments in China.
Assisting in the organization and follow-up of inter-agency and high-level meetings or events attended by the Resident Coordinator or RCO staff members.
Providing logistical and substantive support to incoming high-level UN delegations.
Engaging in the development of public-private partnerships relevant to the implementation of the Cooperation Framework. This role requires a proactive approach and the ability to work independently while building strong relationships with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be currently enrolled as a junior or senior undergraduate student or have already obtained a bachelor's degree or equivalent. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Additionally, applicants should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Strong analytical skills and the ability to build relationships with clients are essential, along with the capability to work independently.
Educational Background: Candidates should be either enrolled in a graduate programme or have completed a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Specifically, applicants must be junior or senior students in their first university degree, currently enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme. This educational background is crucial as it ensures that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the UN's initiatives.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the Partnership Intern role. This could include involvement in projects, research, or volunteer work related to international development, public policy, or partnership building. The emphasis is on the applicant's ability to demonstrate relevant skills and knowledge rather than formal work experience.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN. Additionally, proficiency in Chinese is considered an advantage, as it may enhance communication and understanding within the local context.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 5 days a week, with 8 hours of work each day. The expected duration of the internship is six months, starting before the end of December 2025 and continuing until June 202
