Job Overview: The Economic Recovery Assistant position is a field-based role that plays a crucial part in the implementation of economic recovery activities at the woreda and community levels in Sheraro, North Tigray. The Assistant will work under the supervision of the Economic Recovery Team Leader, ensuring that day-to-day project activities are executed effectively. This role requires active community engagement to ensure beneficiaries receive quality support. The Economic Recovery Assistant will be responsible for facilitating livelihood interventions, managing farmer groups and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), delivering training, conducting beneficiary verification, and performing field-level monitoring. The position demands a hands-on approach to support the community in rebuilding their livelihoods and enhancing their economic resilience.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Economic Recovery Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:
Direct Field Implementation & Community Engagement: Conducting beneficiary verification for livestock distribution, facilitating the distribution of agricultural inputs, supporting the establishment of demonstration plots, and conducting community mobilization sessions.
Farmer Groups & VSLA Implementation: Facilitating the formation of farmer groups, conducting meetings, training VSLA members on financial literacy, and monitoring VSLA operations.
Training & Capacity Building: Delivering training sessions on livestock management and sustainable farming practices, supporting Agricultural Extension Workers, and organizing field days for peer learning.
Market Linkages & Business Development Support: Assisting community groups in developing business plans, facilitating connections with agro-dealers, and monitoring market opportunities.
Community Feedback & Accountability: Operating Community Feedback & Response Mechanisms, documenting community feedback, and ensuring beneficiary participation in decision-making processes.
Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of field activities, collecting data, preparing reports, and documenting success stories.
Coordination & Collaboration: Coordinating with government officials, participating in meetings, and collaborating with other DRC program staff.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a range of qualifications, including a minimum of 1 year of experience for candidates with a Bachelor's degree or 2 years for those with a diploma in agriculture, livelihood programming, or rural development. Candidates should have experience in community mobilization, working with farming communities, and hands-on experience with farmer groups and VSLAs. Additionally, experience in training delivery, working in rural areas, and knowledge of crop production and livestock management are essential. Proficiency in using digital tools for data collection and basic computer skills are also required. Understanding of gender-sensitive programming and familiarity with participatory rural appraisal tools are advantageous.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a diploma or bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Cooperative Studies, or a related field. Relevant certifications or licenses in these areas will be considered an asset.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 1 year of relevant experience for those holding a Bachelor's degree, or 2 years for those with a diploma. Experience should include community mobilization, direct engagement with farming communities, and familiarity with the challenges faced in rural or post-conflict settings. Practical knowledge of agricultural practices and experience in training delivery are also important.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Additionally, proficiency in Tigrinya and Amharic is required, as these languages are essential for effective communication with local communities.
