Job Overview:
The Economic Recovery Community Worker is a pivotal role within the Danish Refugee Council's operations in Sheraro, Tigray. This community-based position is designed for individuals who are passionate about engaging directly with project beneficiaries and community members. The Community Worker will work under the supervision of the Economic Recovery Team Leader and collaborate closely with the Economic Recovery Assistant. The primary focus of this role is to facilitate community mobilization, support beneficiaries, collect data, and maintain ongoing communication between the project team and the community. The Community Worker will be responsible for ensuring that project activities are well understood and embraced by the community, thereby fostering a sense of ownership and participation among community members. This position requires a proactive approach to community engagement and a commitment to supporting vulnerable populations, particularly women and heads of households.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Economic Recovery Community Worker include but are not limited to: conducting daily community mobilization activities to raise awareness about project activities; organizing and facilitating community meetings and information dissemination events; identifying and registering eligible beneficiaries based on vulnerability criteria; building trust and maintaining strong relationships with community members and local authorities; encouraging community participation and ownership of project activities; conducting house-to-house visits to engage with vulnerable households; facilitating the formation and operation of Farmer Groups and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs); attending and supporting farmer group and VSLA meetings; assisting in the verification and registration of beneficiaries for livestock distribution; collecting feedback and concerns from community members; maintaining accurate records of beneficiary lists and activity data; and coordinating closely with the Economic Recovery Assistant and other community workers.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Economic Recovery Community Worker position should possess the following qualifications: a diploma or bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Cooperative Studies, or a related field; up to one year of experience working with communities in rural development, agriculture, or social programs; experience in community-based programs; knowledge of local community structures and customs; strong community mobilization and interpersonal skills; ability to facilitate small group meetings; basic understanding of agriculture and livestock management; and cultural sensitivity and respect for community values. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate basic literacy and numeracy skills and an understanding of gender-sensitive approaches.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a diploma or bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, or Cooperative Studies. Candidates should have a solid foundation in agricultural practices and community development principles, which will enable them to effectively engage with beneficiaries and facilitate project activities.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have up to one year of experience working directly with communities, particularly in rural development, agriculture, or social programs. Experience in community-based initiatives and direct engagement with farmers and vulnerable populations is essential. Candidates should also have a demonstrated ability to mobilize communities and facilitate group discussions, as well as a basic understanding of agricultural practices and livestock management.

Languages:
Fluency in Tigrinya and Amharic (both written and spoken) is mandatory for this position, as these are the primary languages spoken in the community. Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken, are also required to ensure effective reporting and collaboration with the project team and stakeholders.
