Job Overview: The UNV Expert – SBC Data for Action and Digital Approach will play a pivotal role in the Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) sector of UNICEF Nepal. This position is integral to the Nepal Country Programme Action Plan 2023-27, which aims to catalyze cross-sectoral integration to achieve structural social change. The expert will focus on enhancing the SBC+ sectoral system through three strategic pillars: Data for Action, Capacity Building, and SBC+ system-supported Coordination. The role involves leading behavioral science research, implementing digital engagement strategies, and ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation of SBC initiatives. The expert will also facilitate partnerships and support programming implementation to drive transformative change for children and communities in Nepal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct qualitative and quantitative research in behavioral science, applying insights to inform SBC strategies and ensure active participation from target groups.
Develop guidelines for integrating behavior science into programming across government and partner organizations.
Design and oversee UNICEF Nepal’s digital engagement strategies, including initiatives like U-Report and community listening platforms.
Lead monitoring and evaluation efforts, ensuring quality documentation of SBC outcomes and alignment with national and global reporting frameworks.
Strengthen partnerships with public and private sectors to enhance SBC initiatives and ensure compliance with UNICEF policies.
Provide strategic support for SBC program implementation, integrating digital solutions and behavioral insights into broader programming.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of behavioral science and its application in social change initiatives. They should have experience in research methodologies, particularly in qualitative and quantitative data collection. Familiarity with digital engagement strategies and community-based programming is essential. Strong analytical skills, along with the ability to foster partnerships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, are critical for success in this role.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in social sciences, public health, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in behavioral science, research methodologies, or digital engagement strategies will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in social and behavioral change programming, research, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of child welfare and development, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Nepali or other local languages is considered an asset, as it will facilitate better engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Kathmandu, Nepal, and requires the UNV to work five days a week at UNICEF premises. A monthly Volunteer Living Allowance will be provided to cover living expenses, along with health insurance for up to three dependents. The role is full-time and may involve travel within Nepal to support program implementation and stakeholder engagement.
