Job Overview: The UNV SBC Associate – Innovations and SBC+ position is critical in supporting UNICEF's Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) initiatives in Nepal. This role is designed to enhance the integration of SBC strategies across various sectors, including Nutrition, Health, Education, Child Protection, WASH, and Social Protection, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The associate will be responsible for identifying and implementing innovative approaches to engage communities, particularly focusing on youth engagement and climate action. This includes leveraging digital tools and social innovations to create user-friendly SBC resources that address community needs. The associate will also document and disseminate best practices related to climate change and resilience building, ensuring that UNICEF's work is visible and impactful across multiple platforms. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to develop effective communication assets that resonate with diverse audiences and contribute to the overall goals of the Nepal Country Programme Action Plan 2023-27.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UNV SBC Associate will undertake a variety of duties, including:
Supporting the SBC team in identifying and implementing innovative strategies such as social innovation and digital SBC to enhance community engagement.
Collaborating with sectoral focal points to develop visually appealing SBC tools and resources that effectively capture community needs.
Documenting and sharing good practices on topics like climate change and youth empowerment, producing engaging content for various platforms.
Assisting in the creation of creative SBC communication assets linked to the SDGs, including publications, infographics, and multimedia content.
Providing regular updates on the performance of creative assets and making necessary adjustments to improve effectiveness.
Developing multi-language guidelines and training materials in collaboration with the UNICEF Regional SBC team.
Working with the SBC team to conceptualize and design deliverables tailored for different audiences, ensuring maximum visibility and impact.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong competencies in accountability, adaptability, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organizing, professionalism, and self-management. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effectively conveying ideas and engaging with diverse stakeholders. Continuous professional development in relevant areas is also beneficial.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in social and behavior change communication, community engagement, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNICEF or similar agencies, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully implementing innovative communication strategies and engaging with diverse communities.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNICEF. Knowledge of Nepali or other local languages is considered an asset, as it enhances the ability to engage effectively with local communities and stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may also be beneficial, depending on the specific needs of the role.
Additional Notes: The UNV position is based in Kathmandu, Nepal, and requires the volunteer to work five days a week at UNICEF premises. A monthly Volunteer Living Allowance will be provided to cover housing and living expenses. The position includes life, health, and permanent disability insurance, as well as coverage for up to three dependents. Additionally, there are provisions for final repatriation and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. The role is full-time and offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to UNICEF's mission in Nepal.
