Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position involves supporting the UNDP's initiatives in Afghanistan, particularly in monitoring and reporting on project outcomes. The role requires the volunteer to design and implement data collection protocols, support the team in monitoring data quality, and draft various reports to track project progress. The volunteer will also engage in visibility and communication efforts, ensuring effective external communication and maintaining strategic partnerships. Additionally, the role includes knowledge management responsibilities, facilitating learning agendas, and developing knowledge management products related to monitoring and evaluation (M&E). The volunteer will work closely with project teams and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of projects aimed at enhancing climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods in Afghanistan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer include:
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Design and implement data collection and reporting protocols linked to project outcome indicators; support the team in monitoring data quality; perform field visits to ensure data accuracy; draft reports and analyze data against indicators; interpret implementation outcomes and provide recommendations; support the project team in drafting and implementing the M&E plan; draft various reports in compliance with financing agreements; monitor project risk logs; assist in monitoring project milestones; support organizing special events such as donor engagement and evaluations.
  • Visibility and Communication: Support effective external communication, conduct analysis of the political, social, and economic situation; maintain strategic partnerships; coordinate with clients and stakeholders; work closely with project staff and UNDP teams to ensure communication materials are accurate; collaborate with the UNDP Communication Unit to develop media-friendly products; write content for various platforms.
  • Knowledge Management: Communicate with project management and stakeholders; facilitate learning agendas and knowledge management activities; support the preparation of publications and document best practices; develop M&E knowledge management products; engage with counterparts and communities of practice to disseminate learnings.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of project management, monitoring, and evaluation principles. The candidate should possess excellent analytical skills, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for drafting reports and engaging with stakeholders. The candidate should also demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a challenging work environment.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, development studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in project management, monitoring and evaluation, and development practices.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation, or a related field. Experience working in a development context, particularly in Afghanistan or similar environments, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP's mission and operations would be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages such as Dari or Pashto would be an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
The successful applicant will be based in Kabul, living within a UN-protected compound, with accommodation provided by UNDP.
