Job Overview:
The Associate Project Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA). This position involves working under the supervision of the Senior Regional Programme Coordination Officer and the Programme Support Officer. The officer will assist in collecting information, contributing to regional analysis, and developing knowledge products that support the program's reporting to donors and stakeholders. The role requires a proactive approach to knowledge management, ensuring that best practices and achievements of the program are documented and shared effectively. The officer will also be involved in organizing regional and cross-regional events, which are essential for fostering collaboration and partnerships across the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in drafting and updating MPRR Operational Guidelines and Protocols to facilitate knowledge sharing among countries involved in the MPRR-SSA.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for the collection, review, production, archiving, and dissemination of good practices and knowledge regarding the program's achievements at both country and regional levels.
  • Contribute to information gathering and sharing initiatives with IOM Missions under the MPRR-SSA, preparing internal bulletins, knowledge products, and periodic operational emails.
  • Prepare and maintain updated Country Analysis factsheets for target countries, focusing on economic, political, and social dimensions that could impact the program.
  • Assist in the development of the program's periodic reporting tasks, including drafting, reviewing, and proofreading sections to ensure accuracy and coherence.
  • Liaise with country offices to update the program database on projects funded by other donors that contribute to MPRR-SSA implementation and identify complementary funding opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, Migration Studies, International Relations, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, a University degree in the aforementioned fields with two years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in relevant fields such as Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, Migration Studies, International Relations, or Law. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in these fields must have at least two years of relevant professional experience to qualify for the position. The educational institutions must be accredited and recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
Candidates should have previous experience working with international organizations, non-governmental organizations, or governmental institutions in a multicultural setting. Experience in knowledge management and communication is essential, along with a proven track record of liaising with governmental authorities and local communities. Familiarity with UN and International Agencies, as well as international or local NGOs, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is required for this position, both oral and written. IOM's official languages are English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their language skills as part of the application process.

Additional Notes:
The position is classified as a Special Short Term Graded contract, with an initial duration of 6 months, extendable up to 9 months. The role is categorized under the Professional recruiting type. Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile, and any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation. This selection process may also be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
