Job Overview: The Caregiver position is crucial for the daily operations of the accommodation centers for unaccompanied minors managed by IOM in Thessaloniki. The role involves providing direct support and care to unaccompanied migrant children, ensuring their safety, well-being, and access to necessary services. The caregiver will work closely with the shelter coordinator and social workers to implement individualized care plans for each child, addressing their basic needs and facilitating their integration into the community. This position requires a proactive approach to managing the daily activities of the center, ensuring that children receive the appropriate guidance and support in maintaining personal hygiene and cleanliness. The caregiver will also be responsible for maintaining communication with local authorities and responding effectively to any emergencies or crises that may arise within the center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the daily operations of the accommodation center, following the instructions of the shelter coordinator and scientific staff.
Implement individual daily programs for beneficiaries in collaboration with social workers.
Escort children to social and medical services as needed.
Provide guidance on personal hygiene, cleanliness, and home economy.
Monitor and report on the adequacy of materials such as hygiene items and clothing, ensuring timely replenishment.
Oversee the maintenance of equipment and facilities, educating minors on their proper use.
Maintain accurate records of entry and exit for minors and visitors.
Handle crisis situations effectively, ensuring timely communication with scientific staff.
Coordinate with local authorities regarding safety concerns. 1

Perform additional duties as assigned by the coordinator.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma from Greece or equivalent foreign education.
Experience or training in child protection, particularly with unaccompanied minors.
Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and refugees, especially children.
Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
Ability to work in a multicultural environment and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a high school degree from Greece or demonstrate attendance at an accredited foreign school. The educational institutions must be recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database to ensure the validity of the qualifications.
Experience: Candidates should have relevant experience or training in areas related to child protection, the reception of applicants for international protection, or the integration of recognized beneficiaries of international protection. Experience working with diverse populations and in multicultural settings is essential. Previous roles in similar environments will be highly regarded, and candidates should have a positive record of experience in child care or related fields.
Languages: Fluency in Greek, both written and oral, is mandatory for all applicants. Working knowledge of English, French, or any other language will be considered an asset, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish.
