Job Overview:
The Interpretation Support Officer will play a crucial role in facilitating the integration of the refugee population into the labor market in Greece. This position involves close collaboration with national authorities and aims to enhance the employability of refugees through vocational training, language courses, and internships. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting outreach and interpretation activities within accommodation facilities, assisting project teams during field visits, and ensuring effective communication with beneficiaries. The role requires planning and implementing operational plans for interpretation needs, particularly focusing on outreach activities and vocational training processes. The officer will also provide interpretation support for traineeship components and assist beneficiaries in navigating services related to their employment and training needs. Regular visits to accommodation sites will be necessary to inform beneficiaries about project events and provide written translations as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Interpretation Support Officer include:
  • Supporting outreach and interpretation activities within accommodation facilities.
  • Assisting project teams during field visits and meetings with beneficiaries.
  • Planning and implementing operational plans for interpretation needs in coordination with National Project Coordinators.
  • Providing interpretation support for vocational training and traineeship components.
  • Assisting beneficiaries with relevant information and support as needed.
  • Collecting project-related data for interpretation services and providing regular inputs to the Information Management Assistant.
  • Supporting beneficiaries in communicating with service providers related to traineeship components.
  • Conducting regular visits to accommodation sites to inform beneficiaries about upcoming project events.
  • Performing written translations whenever necessary. 1
  • Carrying out any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Interpretation Support Officer position include:
  • A university degree in Languages or Social Sciences from an accredited institution, or a high school degree/certificate with four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in a migration/refugee setting is considered an advantage.
  • Proficiency in using computers and office software packages, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerApps, as well as knowledge of spreadsheet and database management systems.
  • Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • A valid Greek driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Languages or Social Sciences from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, a high school degree or certificate combined with four years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have received a recognized and quality education.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of relevant professional experience in a related field. Experience working in a migration or refugee setting is highly desirable, as it demonstrates an understanding of the unique challenges faced by refugees. Additionally, experience in a multicultural environment is beneficial, as the role requires interaction with diverse populations. Familiarity with computer systems and office software is essential, as the position involves data management and communication tasks.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Greek, both written and oral, is required for this position. Additionally, fluency in Arabic and Kurmanji is mandatory, while proficiency in Sorani is considered an asset. The selection process will specifically evaluate candidates' language proficiency, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure effective communication with beneficiaries and stakeholders.
