Job Overview:
The position involves the procurement of consultancy services for a National Geospatial Expert who will play a crucial role in the development of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and the Seventh National Report. The expert will be tasked with compiling relevant geospatial data and producing necessary maps that reflect the current state of biodiversity and environmental resources in Seychelles. This role requires the expert to spatially present key datasets, ensuring that the information is accurate and up-to-date. The assignment is expected to last for a total of 60 days spread over a period of 5 months, indicating a flexible work schedule that allows for thorough data collection and analysis. The expert will need to work closely with UNDP Seychelles and possibly other stakeholders to ensure that the geospatial data aligns with national and international standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Geospatial Expert will have several key responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Compiling and analyzing geospatial data relevant to biodiversity and environmental resources in Seychelles.
  • Producing high-quality maps that visually represent the data collected, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Updating existing maps with the most current data available to reflect changes in the environment and biodiversity.
  • Collaborating with UNDP Seychelles and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the data and maps meet the requirements for the NBSAP development and the Seventh National Report.
  • Providing technical expertise in geospatial analysis and mapping techniques.
  • Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations based on the geospatial data analysis.
  • Engaging in discussions and consultations with local experts and stakeholders to gather insights and validate data.
  • Ensuring compliance with UNDP procurement guidelines and standards throughout the assignment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in geospatial analysis and mapping, with proven experience in using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software. A thorough understanding of biodiversity and environmental issues, particularly in the context of Seychelles, is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to present complex data in a clear and concise manner. Strong communication skills are also required to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders and present findings.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Geospatial Science, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have formal training in GIS and related technologies, as well as experience in environmental data analysis and mapping.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in geospatial analysis, mapping, and environmental data management. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of biodiversity and environmental projects, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP processes and procurement guidelines would be an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all reports and communications will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of French or Creole would be considered an advantage, given the local context of Seychelles and the potential need for communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration is for 60 days over a span of 5 months. The work is expected to be conducted on a part-time basis, allowing for flexibility in scheduling.
