Job Overview:
The Climate Transparency Specialist will play a crucial role in the implementation of the CBIT project, which aims to strengthen the technical and institutional capacity of the Solomon Islands to comply with the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) of the Paris Agreement. This position involves working closely with government officials and stakeholders to enhance their understanding of climate transparency and reporting requirements. The specialist will be responsible for conducting training sessions, developing training materials, and providing technical support to ensure effective implementation of the project outputs. The role requires collaboration with various ministries and stakeholders to ensure that the project objectives are met and that the country can effectively track and report on its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: conducting hands-on training in climate transparency for government officials and stakeholders; identifying training needs based on capacity gaps; preparing GHG Inventory training materials tailored to the country's needs; conducting assessments on data availability and management systems; reviewing draft Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) for data collection and dissemination; conducting training sessions on the use of IPCC guidelines and inventory software; supporting the implementation of improvement plans for GHG inventories; collaborating with ICT officials on the integrated Monitoring Reporting and Verification (iMRV) system; providing information on ETF reporting requirements; capacitating government officials on the importance of the iMRV system; and developing guidelines/manuals for Training of Trainers (ToT) to support capacity building.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Climate Science, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in climate transparency, energy sector initiatives, and capacity building is required. Candidates should also have a working knowledge of English and demonstrate core competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.

Educational Background:
A university degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Climate Science, or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of climate transparency and the technical aspects of the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in areas related to climate transparency, particularly within the energy sector and capacity building initiatives. Experience working in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) or Least Developed Countries (LDCs) is highly desirable, as is familiarity with GHG Inventory methodologies and international climate reporting standards.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the stakeholders involved in the project.
