Job Overview: The Driver position is situated within the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Baghdad, Iraq. The primary function of this role is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and general cargo. The Driver will be responsible for making deliveries of parcels and documents to various offices and institutions, including ministries and embassies. Additionally, the Driver will handle minor purchases and collect urgent items from local suppliers as needed. The role also involves maintaining the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is in good working condition, and reporting any damages or issues. The Driver will assist with data collection and analysis, contributing to the preparation of reports and presentations. This position requires a commitment to professionalism, client orientation, and effective planning and organizing skills, as the Driver will interact with various officials and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver's duties include:
Safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo.
Making deliveries of parcels and documents between the office and other institutions.
Handling minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers.
Meeting official personnel at the airport.
Dealing effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
Performing day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and tools.
Reporting any damage or loss of vehicle tools.
Logging fuel consumption and maintenance activities.
Ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents. 1
Assisting with data collection and analysis, as well as preparing presentations and reports. 1
Updating information materials such as web pages or brochures. 1
Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of the Resident Coordinator's Office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid National Driver License and have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Experience in driving various types of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles, is essential. Familiarity with the United Nations or similar international organizations is desirable, as is experience providing driving and protocol support to senior officials or delegations. Additionally, candidates should have at least one year of experience in data analytics or a related area.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. A relevant first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience, providing candidates with a pathway to meet the educational qualifications while gaining practical experience.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of progressive responsible experience as a driver, with a proven safe driving record. Candidates should have experience driving a variety of vehicles and providing support in diplomatic or multilateral settings. Experience with the United Nations or similar organizations is highly desirable, as is experience in data analytics or related fields.
Languages: For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages, as per the UN Language Framework. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This is a Fixed Term position available for a duration of one year, with no expectation of renewal. The appointment is subject to local recruitment rules, meaning that applicants must be authorized to work in Iraq. Selected candidates from outside the duty station will be responsible for their relocation expenses.
