Job Overview:
The internship in the Office of Military Affairs (OMA) within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) is designed to provide practical experience in the field of international peace and security. The selected interns will work under the supervision of experienced staff members, gaining insights into the operations of the UN and contributing to the mission of maintaining peace in conflict-affected areas. The internship is structured to last for six months, with the possibility of full-time or part-time engagement, allowing interns to balance their academic commitments while gaining valuable experience. Interns will be involved in various tasks that support the OMA's objectives, including research, drafting documents, and assisting in the organization of meetings and events. This role is particularly suited for individuals who are passionate about international relations and eager to contribute to the UN's peacekeeping efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to perform a variety of tasks that may include: assisting in the drafting and preparation of background documents, reports, issue briefs, and presentations; supporting the organization of intergovernmental meetings and conferences; providing logistical and administrative support during events; managing extrabudgetary funds and grants; collecting and systematizing information on military performance and policy issues; conducting outreach and research on military-related topics; providing editorial support for military guidance documents; assisting in policy development and analysis; maintaining databases and mailing lists; and performing other duties as required by the supervising staff. The specific responsibilities will depend on the intern's background and the needs of the office during their internship period.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Candidates should be pursuing or have pursued their degree in fields related to administration, finance, business, or similar areas. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite, and show a strong interest in the work of the United Nations. The ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is also essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master's or Ph.D. program.
