Job Overview:
The National UN Youth Volunteer/Human Rights and Monitoring Specialist will work under the supervision of the OHCHR Regional Representative for Central Asia. The role involves monitoring and reporting on human rights issues, assessing their impact on the region, and engaging in human rights monitoring both in person and remotely. The specialist will handle communications from individuals, maintain databases, draft replies, and provide legal assessments. Additionally, the role includes planning and implementing capacity-building activities in the region. UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate into their work and engage with communities, enhancing their understanding of volunteerism and contributing to local volunteer initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the National UN Youth Volunteer include monitoring and reporting on human rights issues, conducting human rights monitoring in coordination with various stakeholders, managing incoming communications, maintaining a database, drafting initial replies, and providing legal analysis. The volunteer will also assist in planning and implementing capacity-building activities, contribute to the UN Volunteers programme, and engage in community activities. The expected outputs include timely and high-quality support to OHCHR, organized human rights databases, planned capacity-building activities, and reports on volunteerism achievements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and respect for diversity. They should possess excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to continuous learning. The role requires effective organizational and problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and flexibility to adapt to challenging environments. A genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement is essential.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically in fields related to human rights, law, social sciences, or international relations. Candidates should have a solid understanding of human rights issues and the ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings.

Experience:
Candidates should have some level of experience in human rights monitoring, legal analysis, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations or in a multicultural environment is advantageous. The role may be suitable for recent graduates or individuals with limited professional experience who are eager to learn and contribute to human rights initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Russian or Kyrgyz is highly desirable. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, especially in the context of engaging with diverse communities.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials.
