Job Posting Organization: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a leading intergovernmental organization that provides services and advice concerning migration to governments and migrants alike. Established in 1951, IOM has grown to include 173 member states and operates in over 100 countries worldwide. The organization aims to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, ensuring that migration is safe, orderly, and dignified. IOM's mission includes addressing the challenges of migration, supporting migrants and their communities, and enhancing the understanding of migration issues globally. The organization is committed to gender equality and the empowerment of women, particularly in the context of migration, which is increasingly recognized as a critical area of focus.
Job Overview: The Reintegration Assistant (Gender & Feminization of Migration) will play a crucial role in supporting the IOM and RRR project partners in addressing the gender dimensions of migration and reintegration in Cameroon. This position is designed to analyze and document the feminization of migration pathways, return motivations, and reintegration experiences of women. The assistant will assess existing reintegration services against gender-sensitive standards and develop operational methodologies that reflect the unique challenges faced by female returnees. The role requires a combination of analytical and operational skills, ensuring that gender considerations are systematically integrated into the project’s tools and workflows. The assistant will also be responsible for producing a short research report that will contribute to policy and practice components of the RRR project, thereby enhancing the capacity of the national system to deliver equitable and effective reintegration assistance for women and girls.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Reintegration Assistant include conducting a gender-focused analysis of migration dynamics, documenting determinants of women’s emigration, and assessing existing reintegration services through a gender lens. The assistant will draft gender-sensitive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for return and reintegration programming, including protocols for identifying and referring at-risk women and girls, and developing economic empowerment pathways tailored for women. Additionally, the assistant will produce a short research report synthesizing findings on the feminization of migration in Cameroon, gender-specific reintegration barriers, and actionable recommendations for national policy processes. The role also involves delivering orientation sessions for reintegration centre staff and ministry partners, as well as submitting monthly activity updates and a consolidated final report covering research findings and recommendations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma with six years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Migration Studies, Economics, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields from an accredited institution with four years of relevant professional experience. A Master’s degree is considered an asset. The position requires strong analytical and writing abilities, as well as the capacity to work with sensitive data and ethically engage vulnerable populations. Knowledge of gender-responsive programming and protection principles is essential, along with excellent coordination and facilitation skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma with significant relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Candidates with a Master’s degree will have an advantage. The educational qualifications should be from an accredited institution, ensuring that the candidate has a solid foundation in the relevant disciplines that inform the work of migration, gender, and reintegration.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working on issues related to gender, protection, migration, or reintegration. Candidates should have experience in drafting research reports, guidance notes, or SOPs, and familiarity with GBV risk mitigation and referral pathways. Experience engaging with vulnerable groups, particularly women returnees, is crucial for this role, as it involves understanding the unique challenges they face during reintegration.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is required for this position, both oral and written. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication with diverse stakeholders, including government partners, NGOs, and the communities served by the reintegration programs.
Additional Notes: This position is likely to be full-time and may involve working in a dynamic and challenging environment. The role may require international collaboration and engagement with various stakeholders, including government ministries and local NGOs. Compensation and benefits will be aligned with IOM's policies and may include opportunities for professional development and training in gender-responsive programming and migration issues.
