Job Overview: The Reintegration Assistant – Climate-Sensitive Reintegration will be responsible for developing a comprehensive policy and operational framework that integrates climate and environmental considerations into the national reintegration system. This role involves producing a Policy Note on Migration, Climate & Reintegration in Cameroon, which will document the impact of environmental factors on migration and return dynamics. The assistant will also design a Green Jobs Catalogue tailored for returnees, identifying opportunities for embedding them into climate and green growth programs. The position is focused on system-building rather than field implementation, requiring strong analytical and coordination skills to collaborate with various stakeholders, including government partners and international development agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop a Policy Note on Migration & Climate Change in Cameroon, analyzing climate stressors as migration push factors and documenting their influence on return decisions.
Create a Green Jobs Catalogue that identifies climate-resilient livelihood opportunities for returnees, including job profiles, required skills, market demand, and potential partnerships.
Map existing environment and climate programs in Cameroon to identify entry points for returnees into green job creation schemes and eco-entrepreneurship initiatives.
Design a Climate-Sensitive Reintegration Model that incorporates green livelihoods pathways and community-level climate resilience activities.
Deliver training modules for reintegration staff on climate-sensitive reintegration and develop communication briefs for awareness raising.
Submit monthly progress reports and a final compendium of tools and recommendations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical and policy writing skills, with a solid understanding of climate change adaptation and green economy approaches. They should have the ability to develop operational tools and practical guidance, as well as strong stakeholder engagement skills. The ability to work under tight timelines is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a school diploma with seven years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Climate Change, Migration Studies, Development Studies, Economics, Geography, or related fields with five years of relevant professional experience. A Master’s degree is considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of five years of work experience in climate change, environment, migration programming, resilience-building, or reintegration is required. Candidates should have experience in green job creation, environmental livelihoods, or climate adaptation projects, as well as experience developing policy notes or operational tools. Knowledge of Cameroon’s climate vulnerabilities and green economy landscape is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is required for this position, both oral and written, to effectively communicate with stakeholders and produce necessary documentation.
