Job Overview:
The Consultant for Gender Landscape Assessment will play a crucial role in leading a gender landscape assessment in The Gambia. This position involves identifying key actors, initiatives, and gaps in gender and education, and providing strategic recommendations for UNICEF Gambia’s Gender Transformative Education (GTE) engagement. The consultant will also conduct a rapid gender in education assessment using the UNGEI’s Gender Equality in Education Snapshot (GES) Tool. This role is essential for leveraging education as a tool to challenge and transform harmful gender norms, ensuring sustainable and systemic change in the educational landscape of The Gambia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead a comprehensive gender landscape assessment in The Gambia, identifying key stakeholders, initiatives, and existing gaps in gender and education.
  • Provide strategic recommendations for UNICEF Gambia’s engagement in Gender Transformative Education (GTE).
  • Conduct a rapid gender in education assessment utilizing the UNGEI’s Gender Equality in Education Snapshot (GES) Tool.
  • Collaborate with local partners and stakeholders to gather data and insights relevant to the assessment.
  • Analyze findings and prepare detailed reports outlining the current state of gender and education in The Gambia.
  • Present findings and recommendations to UNICEF and relevant stakeholders.
  • Engage in discussions and workshops to disseminate results and foster collaborative efforts towards gender equality in education.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Gender Studies, Education, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience in gender and education programming, particularly in West and Central Africa.
  • Proven experience in conducting landscape assessments and stakeholder mapping.
  • Familiarity with Gender at the Centre Initiative (GCI) tools and UNGEI frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, and communication skills are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in Gender Studies, Education, or a related field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues in educational contexts and for effectively contributing to the objectives of the Gender Landscape Assessment.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in gender and education programming, specifically within the West and Central African regions. This extensive experience is necessary to navigate the challenges and nuances of gender equality in education, particularly in fragile and developing contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and communities effectively.
