Job Overview: The CSD Manager position involves supporting the development and preparation of the Child Survival and Development program, which includes Health, Nutrition, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiatives. The role requires managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the progress of these programs within the country. The CSD Manager will provide technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes, ensuring that the administration aligns with the organizational Strategic Plans and goals, as well as the rights and results-based management approaches. This position is crucial for facilitating the achievement of sustainable results for children and communities in The Gambia, in accordance with national laws and policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and prepare the Child Survival and Development program, ensuring alignment with national policies and UNICEF's strategic goals.
Manage the implementation of health, nutrition, and WASH programs, ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation of progress.
Provide technical guidance to staff and partners involved in program delivery.
Collaborate with government agencies and local communities to strengthen service delivery for women and children.
Prepare reports on program progress and outcomes, ensuring accountability and transparency.
Facilitate training and capacity-building initiatives for local stakeholders involved in health and nutrition services.
Ensure compliance with UNICEF's standards of performance and accountability framework.
Engage in advocacy efforts to promote children's rights and improve health outcomes in The Gambia.
At least 8 years of relevant work experience in public health/nutrition planning and management, particularly in maternal and neonatal health care and health emergency/humanitarian preparedness.
Experience working at the international level, preferably in a developing country, is required.
Relevant experience in health/nutrition program/project development and management within the UN system is an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an Advanced University Degree in fields related to public health, nutrition, or other health sciences. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of health and nutrition programs and for effectively managing initiatives aimed at improving child survival and development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in public health and nutrition, with a strong emphasis on planning and management. Candidates should have experience in maternal and neonatal health care, health emergency preparedness, and working in international contexts, particularly in developing countries. This level of experience is crucial for navigating the challenges associated with health programs in fragile settings.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication and collaboration with local stakeholders and communities.
