Job Overview: The position of Executive Secretary of the International Convention against Doping in Sport is pivotal in promoting sport as a means of sustainable development. The incumbent will oversee the implementation of the Convention, which is a global legal framework involving 192 States Parties committed to upholding the ethics and integrity of sports. This role requires a blend of analytical, technical, administrative, and project management skills to ensure the effective execution of projects related to the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport. The Executive Secretary will work closely with the Chief of the Section for the Elimination of Doping in Sport and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the impact of the Convention and its initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Executive Secretary will be responsible for a wide range of duties including: managing the Anti-Doping Fund, providing organizational support to the COP Bureau and Approval Committee, preparing statutory documents and meeting reports, drafting strategic work plans and budget overviews, liaising with States Parties for project implementation, developing tools for application processes, monitoring fund allocation, and facilitating the work of the open-ended working group on Convention reforms. The role also involves producing correspondence, briefings, and reports, and participating in meetings and events to promote the Anti-Doping Convention and its objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Social and Human Sciences, Political Science, International Relations, Public Affairs, or related fields. They should have a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in project or program management, with at least two years at the international level. Strong project monitoring, organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and IT skills are essential, along with the ability to work in a multicultural environment and manage competing priorities effectively.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree is required, preferably with a specialization in Social and Human Sciences, Political Science, International Relations, or Public Affairs. A post-graduate specialization in these fields is desirable, as it would enhance the candidate's understanding of the complexities involved in international sports governance and anti-doping efforts.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, with a strong emphasis on project or program management within the field of sport. Candidates should ideally have two years of experience at the international level, which would provide them with the necessary insights into global sports governance and the challenges faced in implementing anti-doping measures.
Languages: Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English or French is mandatory, with a good knowledge of the other language being advantageous. Additionally, knowledge of another UNESCO language such as Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, or Russian is considered a desirable qualification, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is a project appointment with an initial duration of one year, which is renewable based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
