Job Overview: The Program Officer - New Vaccine Introduction Support will play a crucial role in advancing the Foundation's initiatives aimed at facilitating evidence-based decision-making regarding the introduction and scale-up of vaccines that are significant for public health. This position is situated within the infectious diseases and vaccine delivery cluster of the India Country Office's Health Team. The officer will collaborate closely with various teams, including those based in Seattle, to develop and implement strategies that support the introduction and evaluation of available and novel vaccines. This role is vital in ensuring that the Foundation's objectives are met, particularly in the context of India's Universal Immunization Program (UIP). The position is limited-term for nine months and is based in New Delhi, reporting directly to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director of Infectious Diseases and Vaccine Delivery. It is important to note that relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Program Officer will be responsible for establishing collaborations with policymakers and program managers in child health at both central and state government levels, providing essential input for informed decision-making regarding the introduction of vaccines into the UIP. The officer will build strategic alliances with various partners, including donors, multilateral and bilateral agencies, and academic institutions, to facilitate the introduction and sustainability of vaccines. Key responsibilities include generating and utilizing critical evidence related to vaccine optimization, understanding the regulatory environment for new vaccines, and working closely with the immunization team to achieve coverage and equity goals. The officer will also manage a portfolio of Foundation investments, review grant proposals, consult with grantees, and ensure effective documentation and reporting. Additionally, the officer will prepare briefs for internal partners, represent the Foundation in meetings and conferences, and contribute to strategy planning and investment opportunities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in medical sciences, with an advanced degree in public health, preventive medicine, or epidemiology (MD/MPH) being desirable. A minimum of five years of experience in immunization programs and child health within a developing country context, preferably in India, is required. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret public health data to inform policy decisions are essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of immunization policies and programs in India, as well as the ability to build relationships with diverse partners and government officials. Knowledge of transitioning pilot projects to full-scale implementation and the ability to work flexibly and efficiently in a team-oriented environment are also important.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in medical sciences, with an advanced degree in public health, preventive medicine, or epidemiology being highly desirable. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of immunization programs and public health initiatives.

Additional Notes: This is a limited-term position for nine months, based in New Delhi, and does not offer relocation assistance. The role may require national and international travel up to 40% of the time. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in India without the need for visa sponsorship.
