Job Overview: The Programme Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of UN Women's program focused on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG). This position emphasizes the importance of women's access to justice, the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV), and engaging young women and men in these efforts. The Consultant will work under the supervision of the Deputy Country Representative and the Team Leader for EVAWG, contributing to the analysis of results achieved during program implementation, monitoring, and reporting. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government officials, civil society, and donors, to ensure successful program execution. The Consultant will also be involved in developing program strategies, providing technical support, and ensuring alignment with global norms and standards related to gender equality and women's rights.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Consultant's responsibilities include contributing to the development of program strategies for EVAWG, providing technical inputs for project proposals, and drafting documents related to country strategies and policy dialogues. The Consultant will support the implementation of the EVAWG Annual Work Plan, ensuring alignment with program objectives through the review of partner workplans and budgets. Additionally, the Consultant will maintain relationships with national partners, coordinate technical assistance and capacity development initiatives, and monitor program implementation using results-based management tools. The role also involves supporting resource mobilization efforts, preparing documentation for donors, and contributing to advocacy and communication efforts related to EVAWG. The Consultant will provide technical support for inter-agency coordination and contribute to high-quality reporting on program outcomes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or equivalent in Law, Access to Justice, Social Sciences, Human Rights, Gender/Women's Studies, International Development, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A project/program management certification is considered an added advantage. The position requires strong program formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation skills, as well as knowledge of Results-Based Management and Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, particularly regarding women's access to justice.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Law, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, or International Development. Candidates with a first-level university degree and additional qualifying experience may also be considered. A project/program management certification would enhance a candidate's qualifications.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects. Technical experience in Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, particularly in women's access to justice, is essential. Experience in coordinating with government agencies and donors, as well as working within the UN system, is advantageous. Leadership experience is also a plus.
Languages: Fluency in English and Kiswahili is required for this position. A working knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset, and knowledge of any Kenyan local language would be beneficial.
