The UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 500 financial institutions, including banks, insurers, and investors, aimed at driving the sustainable finance agenda and aligning financial practices with global sustainability goals.
Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Banking transition and the Net-Zero Export Credit Agencies Alliance, specifically focusing on the delivery of the 2026 work plan. This position involves working remotely and is expected to last for 12 months. The consultant will be responsible for leading sectoral work in food and agriculture and real estate, collaborating with various UNEP workstreams and external partners to ensure a coherent approach. The consultant will also support members of sector-specific frameworks for banking transition to net zero, helping to develop practical technical notes, identify best practices, and convene peer exchange meetings. The overarching goal is to accelerate private and public sector financing for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas such as security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, climate action, and sustainable cities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks, including supporting sector-specific working groups to facilitate peer-learning exchanges, preparing technical meetings, disseminating knowledge through online events and webinars, and maintaining collaboration with UNEP FI's various teams. Specific duties include providing support to the Net-Zero Export Credit Agencies Alliance, assisting in the implementation of the Alliance Work Plan, developing communication materials, participating in meetings, and providing substantive support for budget and funding activities. The consultant will also be responsible for producing technical reports, showcasing member successes, and ensuring that the offerings to members are clear and coherent. Overall, the consultant will contribute to the UNEP FI Climate Team's efforts and perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master's degree in finance, agricultural economics, international relations, or business. A bachelor's degree may be accepted if the candidate has at least 7 years of relevant experience. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of progressively responsible work experience in partnership development, banking, or investment, particularly in areas related to risk, ESG, and sustainable finance products. Experience working with agricultural corporates, banks, insurers, or investors, as well as in international contexts, is essential. The ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects is also required.
Educational Background: A master's degree in finance, agricultural economics, international relations, or business is required for this position. In cases where a candidate holds a bachelor's degree, they must have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience to be considered eligible. This educational background is crucial for understanding the financial and economic aspects of sustainable development and environmental management.
Experience: The position requires at least five years of progressively responsible work experience in relevant fields such as partnership development, banking, and investment. Candidates should have experience in risk management, ESG practices, and client-facing roles, as well as a background in developing sustainable finance products. Experience working with agricultural corporates, banks, insurers, or investors is necessary, along with a proven track record of managing complex projects in international settings.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position, as it is the working language of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of additional languages, such as Portuguese or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's qualifications.
Additional Notes: This consultancy position is remote and is expected to last for 12 months. The consultant will be under the overall supervision of the Head of UNEP FI and will report directly to the head of Climate, UNEP FI.
