Job Overview: The position of Mental Health Nursing Support is crucial in providing mental health and psychosocial support to international protection seekers residing in the Citywest accommodation facility. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission in Ireland and the Head of the MHPSS Unit, directly reporting to the Senior MHPSS and Case Management Associate. The role involves supporting mental health nursing activities, assisting in the care of project beneficiaries, and facilitating their referrals to relevant support networks. The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation of care plans, support follow-up of beneficiaries’ cases, and participate in mental health program activities such as psychoeducation and community support initiatives. The position requires a collaborative approach, working closely with the IOM MHPSS team, HSE services, and other professionals to ensure continuity of care and support beneficiaries in accessing psychosocial and community-based activities that promote social integration and well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Mental Health Nursing Support position include:
Supporting Mental Health Nursing activities and assisting in the care of project beneficiaries.
Gathering information to support mental health care activities and referrals for beneficiaries.
Contributing to the preparation of care plans or support plans under guidance from the Senior MHPSS and Case Management Associate.
Following up on beneficiaries’ cases and linking them to relevant services while maintaining basic records of service engagement.
Participating in mental health program activities such as psychoeducation, awareness sessions, and community support initiatives.
Identifying and facilitating referrals to appropriate internal and external health, social, and community support services, and following up with service users.
Maintaining accurate, up-to-date, and confidential clinical records in line with organizational and data protection standards.
Collaborating with the IOM MHPSS team, HSE services, and other professionals to support continuity of care.
Supporting beneficiaries in accessing psychosocial, therapeutic, and community-based activities that promote social integration and well-being. 1
Engaging families, support networks, and relevant community services to facilitate access to health and social support for beneficiaries. 1
Contributing to psychoeducational initiatives, awareness-raising activities, and staff support activities related to mental health and psychosocial well-being. 1
Following professional, ethical, and safeguarding guidelines and assisting in reporting, monitoring, and evaluation activities to support program quality and accountability. 1
Performing any other duties as may be assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Mental Health Nursing Support position include:
A high school diploma with six years of relevant work experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in General/Mental Health Nursing from an accredited academic institution with four years of professional work experience.
Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) is considered an advantage.
Knowledge of mental health issues affecting migrant and asylum-seeking populations is essential.
Familiarity with Irish mental health services and referral pathways is beneficial.
Previous experience with international organizations, NGOs, EU Agencies, and/or Irish law enforcement or government departments is an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess either a high school diploma with six years of relevant work experience or a Bachelor’s degree in General/Mental Health Nursing from an accredited academic institution. The educational institutions must be recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) is an advantage, indicating that the candidate is qualified to practice nursing in Ireland.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of four years of professional work experience if they hold a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, or six years of relevant work experience if they have a high school diploma. Experience should include supporting nursing, psychosocial, or mental health programs specifically for refugees, migrants, or other vulnerable populations. Candidates should also have experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and assisting with referrals, documentation, and follow-up activities. Awareness of mental health issues affecting migrant populations and familiarity with Irish mental health services and referral pathways is also necessary.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. While English is required, knowledge of French or Spanish may be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Ireland will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the relevant government authorities. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
