Job Overview:
The Cultural Mediator position is crucial in supporting the implementation of project activities related to mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (MHPSS) for international protection seekers in Ireland. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Head of the MHPSS Unit, directly reporting to the Senior Cultural Mediation and Community Engagement Associate. This role involves supervising Cultural Mediators, coordinating daily operations, and ensuring that beneficiaries receive the necessary support. The Cultural Mediator will also be responsible for connecting with new residents, identifying vulnerable cases, and facilitating access to community-based psychosocial services. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to maintain effective communication with various stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation of project activities and supervise the work of Cultural Mediators in designated locations.
  • Coordinate daily operations and services provided to beneficiaries by Cultural Mediators.
  • Ensure equitable allocation of tasks within the team and assist in resource management.
  • Collaborate with the Senior MHPSS Associate to conduct needs assessments and surveys.
  • Connect with new residents and refer vulnerable cases to case workers.
  • Identify training needs for the team and report them to the Cultural Mediation and Community Engagement Coordinator.
  • Prepare weekly updates on trends, challenges, and solutions.
  • Escalate sensitive issues and provide analysis of complaints and feedback.
  • Maintain contact with agencies for communication and interpretation services. 1
  • Stay updated on policies and best practices affecting international protection applicants. 1
  • Support the maintenance of safe environments in transit accommodation centres. 1
  • Assist with monitoring, evaluation, and reporting tasks. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma with at least six years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Social Sciences, International Relations, or related fields with at least four years of relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting programs for migrants or vulnerable groups.
  • Preferred experience providing direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees.
  • Knowledge of working with State agencies and NGOs in Ireland, as well as experience with international organizations and EU agencies.
  • Understanding of international standards and best practices related to displacement and integration.
  • Previous work experience or training in Cultural Mediation is an advantage.
  • Experience in a multicultural environment is beneficial.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess either a high school diploma with significant relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of the role, emphasizing communication, social sciences, or international relations.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of six years of relevant experience if holding a high school diploma, or four years if holding a Bachelor’s degree. Experience should include supporting programs for migrants or vulnerable groups, with a preference for those who have provided direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees. Familiarity with State agencies, NGOs, and international organizations in Ireland is preferred, along with an understanding of issues related to displacement and integration.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both oral and written. A working knowledge of any UN languages is considered an advantage, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Ireland will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification and verification of residency and visa requirements. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct incompatible with its objectives, including discrimination and harassment. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for 24 months.
