Job Overview:

  • The intern will work under the supervision of the Communications and Multimedia Analyst, contributing to the Campaign's social media strategies and content creation. This role is pivotal in enhancing the Campaign's visibility and engagement with diverse audiences, particularly through digital platforms. The intern will gain valuable experience in an international organization, learning about the SDGs and the UN's mission while actively participating in the preparation and implementation of communications activities. The position offers a unique opportunity to engage with various stakeholders and contribute to meaningful change through creative and impactful communication strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the Campaign's communications efforts. Key responsibilities include:
  • Creating engaging content for social media channels, including writing captions and designing visual content.
  • Monitoring social media engagement metrics and compiling reports on campaign coverage.
  • Assisting in the development of monthly social media content calendars and scheduling posts using tools like Hootsuite and Keyhole.
  • Conducting research on communications trends and audience insights to inform social media strategies.
  • Mapping influencers and identifying collaboration opportunities to promote UN campaigns.
  • Organizing Trello Boards and maintaining photo and video archives for easy access in future campaigns.
  • Promoting the Campaign's brand awareness and advocacy priorities across various social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Engaging with the community by responding to comments and messages on social media.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet specific educational requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme or higher).
  • Be in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Additionally, candidates should possess skills in communications, content creation, and social media management, with proficiency in tools like Adobe Suite and Canva for multimedia production.

Educational Background:
Applicants must have a relevant educational background that aligns with the internship requirements. This includes being enrolled in or having completed a postgraduate degree programme or being in the final year of a bachelor’s degree. The internship is designed for those who are pursuing or have recently completed higher education, ensuring that candidates have a solid foundation in communication, media, or related fields.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience in communications, particularly in content creation and management of social media platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and X. Familiarity with the UN system is considered an asset, as it provides context for the Campaign's work and objectives. Proficiency in using multimedia production tools is also essential for this role, enabling the intern to create high-quality content that resonates with diverse audiences.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of one of the other five official languages of the UN (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) would be advantageous, as it may enhance communication with a broader range of stakeholders and audiences.

Additional Notes:
The internship is structured as a six-month program, and interns will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with UNDP's Internship policy. Candidates should be aware that all expenses related to the internship, including medical and life insurance, are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution. The internship is not intended to lead to further employment within the UN System, and there should be no expectation of a job offer upon completion.
