Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position focuses on the collaboration with the United Nations and its development system, which are essential multilateral partners for German development cooperation. The role involves supporting the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in steering UN organizations and implementing development policy priorities. Interns will gain valuable insights into the workings of international organizations and the processes that shape global governance, particularly in relation to the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. This internship is an opportunity for individuals who wish to make a difference in the world while developing their own skills and understanding of international development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including assisting in the preparation of technical and advisory documents for the BMZ, conducting research on relevant multilateral organizations such as UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women, and UNICEF, and supporting the organization of executive board meetings for these organizations. They will also help create analyses and assessments related to UN reform processes, including the Our Common Agenda initiative and the Funding Compact. Additionally, interns will provide conceptual and organizational support for strategic dialogues and information events, manage project-related knowledge, monitor relevant developments within the UN, participate in project meetings, and assist in communication activities by writing articles for the GIZ intranet and BMZ, as well as supporting events with communication services.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should be pursuing a degree in political science, international relations, economics, or a comparable academic discipline. A solid understanding of the mechanisms and procedures of international cooperation, particularly within the UN system, is essential. Previous work or internship experience in an international organization or a German organization operating internationally is desirable. Strong self-organization skills, flexibility, willingness to learn, and teamwork abilities are crucial, along with a keen interest in international development policy. Analytical skills and enjoyment in working with texts are important, as is experience in communication-related tasks.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in a relevant academic program, such as political science, international relations, or economics. The internship is only available to those who are either currently studying, in a training program that includes an internship, or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.

Experience:
Candidates should have some level of experience, preferably through internships or work in international organizations, which will help them understand the dynamics of international cooperation and development.

Languages:
Fluency in both German and English is mandatory, with excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Knowledge of an additional UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's profile for this position.
