Job Overview: The Project Officer will play a crucial role in the planning and execution of the DC2 project, which involves significant renovation and relocation efforts within the UN Headquarters. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the project adheres to its established scope, schedule, and performance indicators. This includes overseeing construction works, managing stakeholder communications, and ensuring business continuity throughout the renovation process. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, effective communication with various parties, and the ability to analyze and interpret data to inform decision-making. The Project Officer will also be tasked with developing and implementing project strategies, conducting workshops, and preparing reports and presentations to keep stakeholders informed of progress and challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: developing and evaluating project programs, monitoring implementation, and initiating corrective actions as necessary; conducting consulting assignments and facilitating workshops; researching and analyzing information from diverse sources; generating survey initiatives and designing data collection tools; preparing written outputs such as reports and background papers; providing support for meetings and conferences; developing communication strategies and coordinating outreach activities; managing budget-related activities and preparing financial documents; analyzing data to identify trends and insights; monitoring project risks; providing programmatic support to various committees; and preparing detailed reports and presentations on project progress and achievements. The role requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of project management principles and practices, particularly in the context of large-scale renovations and relocations. The ability to analyze complex data, manage budgets, and coordinate governance activities is essential. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. A commitment to gender equality and diversity in the workplace is also required, as is the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deliver results under pressure.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in the specified fields, combined with two additional years of relevant work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable, indicating a strong foundation in analytical skills relevant to the position.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management, administration, or a related area. At least three years of experience in budget and finance management is required, along with a minimum of two years of experience in data analytics or a related field. Experience in providing administrative support to governance bodies and familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning systems, such as SAP, is also desirable. This extensive experience is crucial for effectively managing the complexities of the DC2 project and ensuring its successful execution.
Languages: English is the required working language for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations Secretariat, and proficiency in French is considered an asset, although not mandatory for this role. Candidates should be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, tailoring their language and style to suit different audiences.
