Job Overview: The Gender and Climate ChangeAnalyst position is integral to the Climate Strategies and Policy Team (CSPT) within the newly established UNDP Climate Hub. This role focuses on integrating gender equality considerations into climate strategies and policies, particularly within the framework of the Climate Promise initiative. The analyst will support the development and coordination of project work plans and budgets related to gender and climate programming, ensuring that all activities are executed in a gender-responsive manner. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including UNDP Country Offices, government entities, civil society, and technical experts, to promote inclusive and participatory processes in gender and climate-related programming. The analyst will also contribute to monitoring, reporting, and knowledge management efforts, ensuring that lessons learned and best practices are documented and disseminated effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Gender and Climate Change Analyst will be responsible for several key duties, including:
Project Planning, Coordination, and Technical Support: Develop and coordinate project work plans and budgets related to gender and climate programming, ensuring alignment with UNDP’s policies and strategies. Coordinate day-to-day activities related to gender mainstreaming in climate strategies, ensuring timely implementation of deliverables. Provide technical guidance on gender equality in climate policy instruments, ensuring all activities are delivered in a gender-responsive manner.
Stakeholder Engagement, Partnerships, and Coordination: Liaise with UNDP Country Offices, government counterparts, and civil society to ensure inclusive processes in gender and climate programming. Map key stakeholders and contribute to strengthening partnerships for collaboration and learning. Facilitate engagement with technical experts and women's organizations to ensure national ownership of gender-responsive climate actions.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Results Management: Update results frameworks and indicators for gender equality in CSPT’s programmes, supporting the development of data collection methodologies. Analyze progress reports and ensure timely submission of inputs for internal reporting. Identify risks and challenges in implementation and propose corrective actions as needed.
Knowledge Management and Capacity Building: Document lessons learned and best practices related to gender integration in climate policies. Develop training materials and facilitate capacity-building sessions on gender-responsive climate action. Contribute to UNDP and partner knowledge platforms and global advocacy efforts around gender and climate.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in gender mainstreaming in climate change or environmental contexts, particularly in research and reporting. A strong understanding of gender and climate change issues, along with experience in data management and quality assurance, is essential. Proven ability to prepare clear and concise briefs, reports, and knowledge products for various stakeholders is required. Candidates should demonstrate effective engagement with diverse stakeholders, including governments and civil society, and have experience organizing multi-stakeholder workshops and consultations. Familiarity with key instruments such as the UNFCCC and NDCs is desirable, as is experience in developing knowledge products and capacity-building materials.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Sustainable Development, Environmental Management, Social/Political Sciences, Gender, Development Policy, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in the aforementioned areas, combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience, will also be considered.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience with a Master’s degree or 4 years with a Bachelor’s degree in gender mainstreaming in climate change or environmental contexts. Experience should include conducting research, summarizing materials related to development areas, and writing for reporting or dissemination purposes. A proven track record of strong analytical and research skills is essential, particularly in synthesizing findings and generating policy-relevant insights on gender and climate change.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of French or Spanish will be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders, particularly in francophone or Latin American contexts.
