Job Overview:
The Senior Graphic Designer Consultant will play a crucial role in delivering professional and visually engaging communication materials that enhance knowledge sharing, advocacy, and outreach for UNEP’s Mitigation Branch. This position supports the effective delivery of activities under various initiatives such as the NDC Cluster, NDC Act & Invest, Cool Coalition, Food Systems, and U4E. The consultant will be responsible for creating high-quality design and communication products that facilitate knowledge dissemination and peer-learning, particularly aimed at assisting emerging and developing economies in accelerating climate action implementation. The role requires a commitment to enhancing the visibility of UNEP's NDC and promoting low-carbon and climate-resilient development support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Graphic Designer Consultant will be tasked with producing a variety of high-quality design and communication products, including:
  • Developing templates for NDCs, Cool Coalition, Food Systems, U4E, and other initiatives to ensure consistency and professionalism in communication.
  • Designing and laying out reports, executive summaries, and condensed outputs that effectively convey complex information in an accessible manner.
  • Preparing visually compelling slide decks for events, meetings, and case studies to enhance presentations and engage audiences.
  • Creating graphics and infographics that include data visualizations, campaign visuals, and social media graphics to support outreach efforts.
  • Designing communication and campaign displays such as roll-ups, banners, posters, and workshop stands to promote UNEP initiatives.
  • Updating existing design products as required to maintain relevance and effectiveness.
  • Designing communication materials for UNEP's Climate Action sub-programme in both digital and print formats to reach diverse audiences.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess strong design and visualization skills, demonstrating creativity and meticulous attention to detail. A robust graphic design portfolio showcasing work related to climate change or other environmental fields such as biodiversity, nature protection, or clean energy is essential. Proficiency in both English and French is required, with additional knowledge of Spanish considered a plus. The consultant should also have a strong understanding of design principles and the ability to translate complex concepts into visually appealing materials.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a relevant educational background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field. A degree or equivalent qualification in design is preferred, along with a strong portfolio that reflects the candidate's skills and experience in producing high-quality design work.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience in graphic design, particularly in creating materials for environmental or climate-related projects. Candidates should have a proven track record of delivering high-quality design work under tight deadlines and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience working with international organizations or in a similar context is highly desirable.

Languages:
Proficiency in English and French is mandatory for this position, as the consultant will be required to communicate effectively in both languages. Knowledge of Spanish is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication with a broader audience and facilitate collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The expected duration of the consultancy is 12 months, with an average of 10 days of high-quality graphic design services required per month, based on demand. This position is not associated with any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, and the United Nations does not request any financial information from applicants.
